I was about to get this but some third party sellers sell fake ones so check when you get it. I own a Joy Callicagraphy set. They write very smooth, super smooth but ink run is actually worse than my Daiso $1.50 clear fountain pen.

Any particular things I need to look for? After writing with it a little this evening, I think it's a fake. The ink doesn't flow as well as a gel pen.

Just got one, the barcode sticker someone added box says Lamy Safari Charcoal Broad, but I got a Lamy Vista with a medium Nib in the box. The original barcode on the box says exactly that.

i've got two metropolitan's that i for the life of me cannot get to write correctly. they worked at some point. now no matter what i do i can't get them to draw ink. idk. would this be easier to use?

Probably not. My Pilot Metropolitans seem to write better than my Lamy Safari. Any fountain pen will dry out after some time of no use. I don't know the best method, but whenever it happens to me I spend time letting the pen/nib soak in warm water, pushing warm water out through the nib, etc.

I can pump warm water though for what seems like hours and still not get the water completely clear as it exits. Any amount of dried ink can cause the nib to not write properly. It's not an all or none thing.

I don't know enough to say for sure, but I wouldn't use boiling water... I'd fear the high heat ruining the nib somehow. Or whatever adaptor you may or may not be using. If anything special, I might suggest distilled water. But I always use tap.

The concern would be the feed, which is typically some sort of plastic or resin that can be damaged or warped by heat. The nib is typically stainless steel at this price point and should handle boiling water without issue. I've used fountain pens for years, soaking overnight in room temperature water has been sufficient to keeping all my pens clean and working well.
