The Alliant Cashback Visa Signature card has removed the annual fee (previously $59) and now offers 2.5% cash back on up to $10,000 in purchases a month ($120,000 a year) with no annual fee. Once the $10,000 per month limit is reached, additional purchases will earn 1.5% cash back.

In order to qualify for the Tier One (2.5%), credit union members must have an Alliant checking account, sign up for electronic statements, maintain a $1000 average balance in the checking account, and receive at least one electronic deposit per month. I was rejected for the AODFCU cards for the reason that I had too many revolving credit lines (cards).

Anyone can become a member of the Northeast Alabama Bicycle Association and then you can join AOD to get the credit card.

From Alliant's website
This looks as simple to satisfy as setting up an automated transfer from my main bank to Aliant on the 1st, automated transfer out of alliant (or automated pull) on the 5th and just pass the same money back and forth.

This is definitely worth the extra 0.5% unless the $1000 permanently sitting in the account is a problem.
I know this is kind of an old thread/post, but you could also just transfer the monthly payment from your main bank account to the Alliant account. I guess it's a hoop, but it isn't so bad. Or just make it your main account (and change your employer DD to this) if you're going to use this card as your primary card anyways.

As for having $1k tied up permanently, frame it as an investment:
Assuming you spend $24k a year ($2k/month), $24k * 0.005 = $120
$120/$1000 = 12%, which is a pretty good ROI in my book.

$40/year, maybe they will only check the first year?
$40/0.03 = $1333, so spending $1333 alone will recoup that cost.

The Wells Fargo is definitely appealing for the 0% for 15 months -- semi-deal-breaker for me because of foreign transaction fee while the Alliant and AOD are free.

The Wells Fargo card was a sweet deal too. Thanks for the math, I agree holding that the extra 0.5% is worth it when this card was already worth paying $120/annually.

Thank you for mentioning this. I read TnC and it is promo 3*

Every dollar(s) in qualifying purchase transactions, net of returns, made on their credit card account eligible in this Rewards Program earns Participant Point(s). Points accrue at 3 points per dollar as of 04/01/2021. Point accrual rate is subject to change at the discretion of the Credit Union. 3 Points per dollar accrual rate is a promotional value and expires on 06/30/2022, at which time points will accrue at 2 points per dollar. No points are earned for finance charges, fees, cash advances, convenience checks, foreign transaction currency charges, or insurance charges posted to their account. Purchase transactions are subject to the APR. Charges or transactions may be added to, or removed from, the above lists of eligible charges and transactions from time to time at the sole discretion of USALLIANCE Financial. Points begin to accumulate with purchases made beginning on the first day of the billing cycle in which the member's Program begins and ending on the last day of the last billing cycle of the announced duration of their Program. Points earned from net purchases and point adjustments made between billing statement cycles will be deemed as earned after being posted to the member's next monthly statement. Points will expire three years from the end of the calendar year in which they are earned, and will expire on a first-in, first-out basis annually. (i.e., points earned in calendar year one will expire on the last business day of calendar year four.)

Thank you for that info. Do you that being a member of that bicycle group makes you eligible for AOD? I read it was only for employees of those orgs. Also, will they disqualify you later for not being the employee? Too much risk here. I want to get AOD but because of this unknown I am inclined towards Alliant

No idea just parroting what I've read. I'd personally go Alliant.

Yes it does. I signed up for the bicycle group for $5 and then added the membership number to my application and got approved for an account. Then they denied my credit application. It was a waste of a hard pull.

Damn! Sorry for your HP. Do you know why they rejected you? Is it coz of credit score or something else?

My concern is my credit history which is around 2yrs only. Don't want to waste Hard Pull for that.

The reason given was "too many revolving credit lines."

Didn't see anybody mention this, but in order to qualify for tier 1 rewards (2.5%) you need to be tier 1 eligible for an entire quarter. "New cardholders will initially earn Tier Two Rewards until they have met Tier One Rewards eligibility requirements for an entire calendar quarter." So if you opened the card recently, you won't start to see 2.5% rewards until 1/2022.

That's right. It is a cycle that you have to be in. Maybe apply towards the end of the quarter??
