The wrist bars only get in the way if you're bending your wrist which you shouldn't do (puts pressure on your wrist and can cause strain). PowerBlocks also has a pro version that doesn't have wrist supports on the top so it's a more open feel. I have both and don't find myself reaching for one type over the other.
The only caution I have is this set is not expandable. PowerBlocks has an EXP (expandable) range that allows for additional weight to make the set go from 50-70 and then another from 70-90 so if you want heavier weights this isn't the pair for you.
