If you use an extension like this use it with a browser that you don't use for anything else. These extensions have access to everything you do with that browser even if unrelated to any deal and their privacy policy fine print allows them to do so and report back all that information to be collated under your verified identity (which they need to provide the cash back). This kind of data sold to whoever wants it is how they pay you back (a fraction of what they make).
To head off red herrings, yes credit card companies and banks also collect data on your purchase but they only see the transaction information, not which sites you spend your time on, what you do on other sites right up to key stroke level. So, it is like having a rootkit virus but limited to activity within that browser thanks to browser security.
Addons like AdBlocker, etc can also potentially do this but their privacy policies are a bit stricter and conforms to EU privacy laws. US is a gold mine for data collectors.
Now floor open for all the vested interests to chime in with 'tin foil hat" comments.
I am not asking you not to do this, just be aware of what you are exposing when you install the add on and do so consciously.
