$194 was the lowest price ever for this (IIRC), but that was back before RP added 3GB to the old 5GB plan to create this one.

Best price for this newer 8GB plan was ~$204; could be coming around again in a month or so, certainly for BF. Maybe lower, even.

Also, just saw first ever RP TV commercial, could be going world-class (or at least trying to).

.
Go with Mint which uses T-Mobile towers. If you buy the annual plan, it'll cost you $15/month for 4GB, unlimited text and talk. I would go with Mint anytime (unless you have issues with T-Mobile coverage in your area).
How do you do that?

MVNO's like US Mobile, Red Pocket, TracFone, etc. have agreements with tier 1 cell providers (Verizon and T-Mobile for example on US Mobile). This allows the MVNO to give its customers a choice which provider to choose during sign up.
Thanks. What's weird is I just checked signalchecker and noticed there is no 5g here for verizon, yet there is for the att and tmobile! Also I didn't know us mobile is their own company/towers apparently... but no 5g and even 4g says roaming. lol.

I really wanted verizon towers, but probably shouldn't do it without 5g... On the other hand, though, I care much more about phone call reliability, so maybe I should do it, anyway.

Do you know anywhere that tells which providers have the best coverage in a specific zip code?

Are you thinking about US Cellular? They have their own towers, US Mobile doesn't.

wow. now look at this... this shows why looking at sites for coverage is a bad idea. So, as I stated, that one website said verizon was the only big carrier to NOT have 5g in my area. I then see a news article right from my city govt stating that verizon is the first provider to install "small cells" to expand 5g coverage in the area. So it's actually likely the best provider to choose here, yet on that site it looked to be the worst... maybe from outdated info or something.

Only thing is if I don't go with verizon themselves and only go with someone "using" verizon towers, I wonder if it won't use the new small cells that expand coverage.

Right now, for a few more days, I have yahoo mobile. It uses verizon towers and has 2 bars and doesn't say 5g on my phone, though. So very confusing and conflicting info everywhere.

Apparently, ALL providers suck in my area, thoguh. I found a site listing them and every one of them had a 2.1 or less star rating. Some even had less than 1 star rating.

oh ok yes that is what I did was mix those two up.

well I see ONE review where someone actually in my area said verizon through red pocketr gives him good coverage of 3 bars... so maybe I should risk one of the red pocket ebay deals...

Darn I just bought the 3GB a couple days ago for $180 and it's now $169. I've messaged them to see if I can get $11 refund of the difference just in case but not optimistic. Will be buying another 3GB for a family member so at least can lock in one.
I bought the 3GB plan for $165 + tax last month.

That happened to me with voice usage as well on a Red Pocket plan using the Verizon network.

I see a Red Pocket front page ad and I feel a sense of duty to warn others of our experience. If you care about sending messages with your phone service, avoid Red Pocket at all cost. It is well-documented in previous posts and in our experience that RP will shut down your text messaging without warning because they claim it is being overused. They refer you to their terms of service, which they claim gives them the right to do so at any time they want for any reason they want. They won't tell you how many is too many, but from anecdotal evidence, it is somewhere in the range of more than 8 messages in a minute, which is easy to do in group messaging. Their unlimited messaging is not unlimited! Avoid RP at all cost if you care at all about messaging.

I'm still on the old T-Mobile $30/mo. 3GB, 100 text, 100 min. plan. This seems better. Thoughts?
Do you mean 5GB, the "Walmart" plan? That's the one I have and it includes Music Freedom and Binge On.

why in the world are there different cell tower providers listed for the same companies? for instance red pocket says tmobile, verizon, AND at&t on different listings. Also, I am not sure if I should do any of this anyway because most of these companies who sue other providers' towers are just random people running them, not reliable companies, so may have to just pay more and go directly through a known provider... I was going to do the 1 year tello for under $70 deal, but then read tons of people saying their service is bad.
Red Pocket is an MVNO. So they sell service on all four major networks, meaning when you sign up for Red Pocket you choose which network you want to use. Most prepaid plans are from MVNO's although each carrier does also have their own prepaid plans. Also not all MVNO's let you choose any of the four networks. For example Mint is T-moble network only. You kind of have to know what network works better in your area and then narrow down what prepaid service might be best for you.

It gets a bit more complicated than that because different MVNO's have different throttled data speeds. However, since you've stated that you need less than 1GB of data I can't imagine the speeds would matter much for that little use.

problem is it's too hard to know which towers would be better here. All i know is verizon added some "small cells" to extend signal. But I am using yahoo mobile, which is verizon towers, and it's only 2 bars.

I wonder how hard it is to switch over from one to the other. For instance, if I sign up for red pocket verizon and then want to switch to red pocket tmobile.

Any idea if renewal would work for any RP plan? I am on GSMA which I wanted to renew. But on ebay page it says:
Important Note: If you already have an existing Sprint SIM card, simply select the option for "Renewal / Existing SIM" and activate immediately using that same SIM and your activation that will be emailed to you within one business day.

Does that mean renewal option would work only for Sprint?

Does this slow down data after your allotted 8GB. If not, which carrier besides Tello has unlimited data after your allotment.

Get Visible unlimited all and highspeed data $25 a month thru partypay. I am using it for 2 months now and I love it where att has no signal i have on visible. Still have the att unlimited. But visible is using Verizon signal so where there is a Verizon signal u have it too.

Same here with Verizon and RP. I think unlimited voice minutes on Verizon really means 1500 per month. And you cant even buy more minutes after they shut you off,
