I always take reviews at what the price the reviewer probably paid (so in this case ~$40). I would think at a quarter the price the reviewer would be more favorable. I'm just using it for a MacBook so I'm not tooooo worried.

In for one, thanks OP.

My friend had one of this design, the gears/ratchets were plastic and broke easily, so you do need to be very gentle.

sounds like instructions were bad, maybe some broke from wrong assembly. Anyway, Like New is good enough for the price. I'm a HTPC junkie so typing on the lap all the time, use a stool for mousepad. I use an office inbox metal mesh tray to stack my laptops. This will give me some flexibility for tablets and such.
