Zero point in getting this when you can get a 3/4" thick 6'x4' horse stall mat from Tractor Supply for less money (usually about $45). The horse stall mats are far superior in every way to this exercise mat. More durable, better grip, and will never move, nor curl up on the ends. Not to mention this won't provide meaningful protection for the floor underneath since it is only 1/3 of the thickness of a horse stall mat. You'd need to buy 3 of them to get the same protection. Hard pass.

Stole my thunder and couldn't agree more. TSC 6'x4' stall mats are significantly better and are $50 full price.

Nope, no smell. I have the smaller version I bought it to put it under my elliptical also because they are easy to move around they are perfect no smell no residue.

There's usually a distinct smell, at least from my experience. It will pass in a week or two, or it can be mitigated by leaving the mats out in the sun for a day or two (flipping them over after the first day and letting the underside get sun, too).

The only thing I could say is that these are much much lighter than the horse stall mats but your point is valid otherwise.

Some people have no issues with smell, but I bought 3 6'x4' returned them because of the smell, I had them in my garage and got light headed from the smell. I bought 3 more and they have been outside for 7 months (direct sunlight for 8+ hours a day) and they still have a slight smell if its hot. These were bought in the Bay Area CA so maybe the ones in my area are just a bad batch.

I have the smaller ones (4'x3') and they don't smell nearly as bad, and lost all bad smell around 2 weeks outside.

Be sure to buy them in person so you can see if they smell. I have gone back twice in the last 6 months and they still have a bad smell at my local TSC. If they don't smell, the horse mats are a way better deal.

They are okay but not for indoor use. Garage gym okay.. Whoever says they don't smell has no sense of smell. They are meant for use in horse stalls, not in homes. You could probably do by airing them outside for a few weeks though.

And with that smell, you are probably breathing in some very questionable chemicals.

I have wood floors, and I bought 3/4" plywood, added felt to the bottom (about $5 on sale at JoAnne since I don't care about the color), and 1/8" rubber mat on top from RubberCal (when it was on sale), better quality. Works great. I don't need bouncy mats anyway, I don't like weights bouncing when dropped.

How would these be on your feet? I do squats and DL's with no shoes. Thank you

I have 3 indoors that I bought for my home gym when the gyms shut down. They definitely smelled at first, but it faded over time. It varies depending on how long the mats were sitting outside at tractor supply, but mine must have been pretty new because they took 3-4 months to fully get rid of the smell. The first few weeks were the worst though. I tried putting them out in the sun, scrubbing them with dawn then simple green and nothing seemed to make a meaningful difference other than time. The smell is the sulfur based adhesive used in the construction of these mats. Commercial gym mats don't use this type of adhesive, but they aren't in the same price range as the TSC ones. The ones from TSC are built well and great for the price.

I'll just say that my horse stall mats took a full week to a week and a half for the smell to dissipate.

My basement has a slight water issue. How are these when water contacts it? Its rubber so should just dry up and not absorb like foam right?

I have a TSC stall mat for my weights and its great because its so heavy duty that it actually absorbs impact from weights and stuff and protects the floors.

However it would be terrible as a workout mat.

its so firm that there is no shock absorption for things that are not really heavy like weights, It is so thick that there is a huge edge to it that could easily cause injury if you are doing some kind of aerobic workout that has you moving around a lot. Also because its so thick my robot vacuum cant clean it.

So in my case doing like a VR workout in the living room, I went with a large memory foam anti fatigue mat.
