The quality started slipping long before Sears sold off the Craftsman brand, as they tried to maximize profits by selling inferior Chinese made products with the formerly well-respected Craftsman name on them. Sears started it, Stanley Black & Decker continues it. Not too many Craftsman products I would buy anymore...
Black & Decker bought Craftsman a few years back and the quality level has gone way down. The Craftsman tools my dad had are still holding up great after 30+ years but anything new I buy is made out of cheap, weak materials that becomes garbage after just a few months of light DIY use.
At this price I still would have bought them IF THEY CAME WITH A CASE but since they don't these are a no-buy for me.
I bought these years ago for the same price. Great for what they are, but really wish they came with some sort of case. If I could go back I would've looked for one with a storage bag or case

Well said. Tool manufacturers and sellers must realize that many buyers want quality, price, and handling. Good quality tools must come with a nice case that improves handling and gives that a long useful life.

Yep, exactly this. I was a big fan of Craftsman stuff. While it may never have been Snap On quality, it was good still very good quality that was more than good enough for most DIY guys and homeowners. Then the quality started slowly declining, the stuff stopped being made in the US, and the decline continued until it became junk. It was no longer good enough for most DIY guys, forcing them to buy something else. That's when Sears sold the brand off to B&D.
