You don't have to wear it daily. I mean, unless you really prefer a phone on your wrist. I'm into tech, and I'm a watch maker. I have no interest in a smartwatch. 🤷🏻

The Seiko 5 Sport watch line is a great watch as knock around daily wearers, and a great launching point for those just starting into the world of automatic watches. The movement beats a little slower than higher end Swiss movements (ETA and Sellita) but is still durable…

Where you see it as affordable for the 26-37mm?
I have seen them in the low $200s on Ebay from time to time. Getting rarer to find them that low. You can get them used for 180. Don't pay anything more than 300 for it new as that's the upper limit right now.

I have two of these new Seiko 5's, one black with a comfy rubber strap and the other a pale blue with a nice SS woven type strap. I got both for right around $250 each and I'm really enjoying them. I swap straps sometimes and I find the black rubber looks better on the pale blue face than on the black from where it came. Anyway, there's one more I really want and it's on sale, finally. Great watches for under 250.

I don't have this exact model but I've been wearing the same Seiko 5 Sports auto as a beater every day for almost 15 years and it's still ticking perfectly.

I bought 2 of the SKXs right before they were discontinued (black and pepsi), each for $360, sure feels like I overpaid seeing this model now

These 5 are solid and in good size. If you are patient and want a better beater, you can snatch a good Samurai or Turtle from Kohl's or some other department store for $150ish more when sale is on. The X logo may seem ugly to some but those divers are really solid and you definitely can tell they are better made than the 5

There are Seiko Snobs who regard the Seiko 5 as something lesser than the SKX range 200m water resistance. The new Seiko 5 divers are more akin to the vintage Seiko Sport Diver line with 100m water resistance. In my opinion, the new Seiko 5 is just as good as any other dive Seiko. And my collection includes the 62Mas and the Williard

It's watch deals like this that make me angry I ever put on an Apple Watch

Before my Apple Watch, I'd wear interesting watches, daily, some that brought-in an occasional compliment.

Now?

Now I've got 1 boring brick on my wrist.

Damn you Steve Jobs!!
Haha. I agree. I stopped wearing mine 2 weeks ago. Looking to get a nice automatic.
I'm getting tired of the feeling of "Having to be connected". The phone is enough. Smilie

Why did Seiko replace the orange monster and skx007 lines with Seiko 5 branded watches? Those things were selling like hotcakes between $200 and $300. Did they think it devalued their brand name?

If they want to compete with strictly luxury brands, go for it. They'll miss the budding watch enthusiast market they were built on. But hey, don't piss on my head and tell me it's raining. Why brand these Seikos with a stupid 5 at all? Just brand it a Seiko.

Used Orange Monsters are going for two to three times what they used to go for new.

Back in the day Seiko 5's were $50-70 all day on eBay in so many variations. And you could get an SKX007 for $150 (Thai version). I have a Pepsi dial (009) version for like $160 ish. I remember paying $52 for a seiko 5 blue racer. And $200 for a samurai. Those were the days.

Great deal on a good watch with a long heritage. If I didn't already have the Seiko SPB143 I would absolutely be on this deal. Have had no problems with Jomashop before on watches in this price range

Seikos were wildly underpriced for years, relative to the competition from Europe.

It's true: the current Seiko 5 and Presage lines are more expensive than the models they replaced, and some actually downgraded in some ways: you can't get a cheap 200M ISO certified diver from Seiko for $200 any longer. But then again, that was always a freakishly cheap price for a certified dive watch.

However, Seiko's 2021 lineup is still excellent compared to Euro brands at similar price levels. Tissot, Hamilton, etc... I think you will still find Seiko a clear winner.

If you want crazy value in an automatic watch from a Japanese brand, check out Orient. They will still sell you a great looking Rolex Submariner-inspired 200M dive watch for $200 or less and their automatic Bambinos are just a hair over $100. Same parent company as Seiko and they have somewhat stepped into the affordable price range that Seiko is vacating.

Or obviously check out a microbrand... if you are looking at an affordable microbrand watch chances are there's literally a Seiko NH35 or NH36 movement inside....
