Bought one a couple weeks ago when it was 140. I challenge anyone to find a phone of this quality for this price brand new. One of the commenters said it was slow. I disagree, it's running Android 11, and doesn't seem to be any slower than my Galaxy S10. For the person wanting to get back into Android phones, this is the perfect opportunity to get a flagship from a couple generations ago for cheap. Bummer that there is no headphone jack, and the top and bottom bezel are larger than the newer model phones, but that leaves good amount of space for the stereo speakers on top and bottom, they are better than any other phone I've ever had. Again, I want to point out that this is running Android 11, and even though it is not being updated any further, it's amazing to get Android 11 for this price.
Youre gonna be downgrading if you're swapping to this

If you purchase this phone you need to be careful what you do with it. Being that you won't be getting security updates, I would recommend not side loading apps or doing anything questionable on the phone. Also, may want to get a separate two factor device for your accounts.

Interesting, do you know if CalyxOS works with Republic wireless?
Most Carrier's are generally not OS restricted unless you have to use a specific dialer app. If you can use the default dialer and messenger apps then you should be fine. Swap your sim into an old flip phone and if it works you should be fine.

The Republic wireless app needs to run on the os, will test it one day. The standard dialer is used.

Thanks.

What are the issues of the pixel 2? and if anyone own both which is better? my priority is battery life and apps managemente (ram). I will choosse only the XL version of the pixel 2 or 3.

Only had my 2XL for a short time and there are only two things that bother me so far. The speakerphone sounds like crap and the blue color shift is very noticeable.

Ordered the bootloader unlocked version. I'd missed this phone after "upgrading" to a 4a 5G last year. The photos taken with the newer 4a are oversaturated and appear lower in quality. $135 is not bad for a backup camera that fits in your back pocket, let alone one that also lets you make calls and send text messages.

The blue color shift is that bad?? I dont really care about the speakerphone. The battery and general performance its what im looking for. The less issues I have with the phoine better.

Very good phone. Been having it since the last 3 years. Never a lag , never hung on me. Photos are decent, I play lot of games on it and battery is pretty good too. I'd use it until it dies. For this price , it's a very good phone. For people who wouldn't mind not upgrading to the next OS. This is a decent phone. I'd recommend it.

$130 for a 5 year old phone is too mcuh
This statement is simple-minded on so many levels:
  • These phones are no where near 5 years old -- they were built between 2.3 and 3.7 years ago (launched 11/2017, discontinued 4/2019), plus they are unused and new in box.
  • Judging a phone's value on age alone is as absurd as saying "$10K is too much for a 20 year old car". If you actually apply logic, you will assess a phone based on its design, features, build quality, and support.
  • I'm guessing your actual point is that $130 is too much for a phone without manufacturer support. That's a legit opinion, one that seems to be shared by many other commenters who seem to be shocked, shocked I say that a phone that no longer receives updates would be offered for sale, much less considered a bargain. The majority, however, appear to have made a reasoned calculation that this phone's design, features, quality, and price outweigh the lack of future OS updates and patches, and/or are willing to root it.
As an example, I just bought a Moto One Action for $155 (new) -- a very good price. That phone was released 1.7 years ago, and still appeared for sale on the Moto store until recently. Even though it is a much newer phone than the Pixel 2 XL, it had not yet received Android 11, will not be updated to 12, and will lose security patches soon. Lucky for me, the camera on it turned out to be defective, so I returned it and started looking for another phone. I found this Pixel 2 XL, and even though it is a couple years older, it is clearly superior in nearly every spec, and is pretty much a wash when it comes to updates, especially given the fact that I will have a much easier time rooting the Pixel with future OS's and updates.

So much as in other things in life, judging a phone's value based solely on its age is a bit foolish

They can flip all they want. I'm not buying that sh1t.

Why don't we buy a 2017 flagship phone for $135 and call it a day?
Those were just to prove there are 4g+ flip phones. Here are some budget GSM ones under $100

nobody should buy this. the Pixel 3 is lightyears ahead and is still getting at least one more OS upgrade this fall. Pixel 2 is long past it's end of life for support and security updates.
Most reviews I've seen say Pixel 3 vs 2XL is better in some areas worse in others -- overall I gather the reviews for Pixel 3 are perhaps slightly better, but I've seen nothing describing it to be a revolutionary improvement as your "lightyears" comment implies -- please enlighten us and reference a review or two that backs this up.

Also please explain the rationale for your very strong opinion that Pixel 2 XL being 9 months out of support is horrendously long and unacceptable, whereas the fact that Pixel 3 will be out of support in about 2 months is just peachy?

You proclaim that "nobody" should buy this -- pray that you consider granting dispensation for those of us that plan to root it and apply future OS updates and patches?

I'm sensing some bias, perhaps you recently bought a Pixel 3 at a significantly higher price laugh out loud

Highly recommend this phone for anyone not needing the latest and greatest. I've used a 2XL as my main and daily phone since launch to this day and to be completely honest never noticed the infamous blue color shift... Or perhaps it doesn't bother me? My original phone was replaced through warranty and do not notice the blue shift on my second unit either. I often use a Pixel 3XL (for work and messing with) and play around with my wife's Pixel 5 and even side by side I think the 2XL screen holds up (though is much more dim than those two).

My only issues I have with my 2XL is my mic has not worked correctly for several months now, which is extremely annoying for work. This was an "easy" fix though as I've finally joined the Bluetooth ear bud club (and will never turn back!). Another recent thing is my phone does randomly restart, maybe once every two days. The phone IS heavily used so there is that. My only other issue is that it no longer receives security updates, which excludes its use for certain work functions for my company.

Full disclosure, I have recently bought a used Pixel 4XL and am patiently waiting for that to arrive. I made the tough decision to upgrade mainly due to the fact I cannot use my 2XL for work, otherwise I would have used this phone to the very end.

Side note, I know Pixel 3 and 3XLs can be found for similar prices these days - I absolutely LOVE the Pixel 3XL as well but they are known to have several issues (mine has them all - camera, wifi, Bluetooth; reddit it). After my 2XL stopped receiving security updates last year, I debated for months wether I wanted to upgrade to a 3XL for work and ultimately decided the gamble wasn't worth it.

I've debated this on all the pixel deals lately. based on all my research this should be a fairly good upgrade over an aging iPhone6.. yes? (assuming unlocked bootloader-- would likely install a 3rd party for updates)
ANY Pixel would be an improvement over ANY iPhone laugh out loud

In the past I would have "any Android" rather than "any Pixel", but sadly most manufacturers have co opted Apple's predatory tactic of creating their own useless proprietary versions of core tools (email, SMS, etc) and defaulting users into them, for the sole purpose of making it harder for users to switch to another manufacturer's hardware (I'm talking about YOU Samsung). Hats off to Motorola (and Nokia RIP) for bucking the trend and competing on the merits of their hardware.

Personally, I would not connect it to the internet....and wrap it in tinfoil just to be safe laugh out loud

I do not intend to install any custom OS. Which phone should I order - the boot loader unlocked or locked to ensure there are no security issues? I have T mobile so need a GSM phone with SIM
The only way to get security updates is to install a custom OS, and to do this you will need the unlocked bootloader. So no custom OS = no security updates = less secure. Nothing you do will insure no security issues -- in my experience most security breaches are not OS hacks, but rather users doing careless things like opening weird attachments, installing sketchy apps, granting inappropriate access.

If you're not comfortable with incurring any risk, either don't get this phone, or get the unlocked bootloader version and change your plans to include loading a custom OS.
