Never understood the sous vide cooking method. Would think using all those plastic in hot water to be potentially unsafe… doubt ziploc or plastic containers are BPA free. Inform me otherwise so I can convince the wife.
Ziploc are BPA free. You're welcome.

Have a few of this type of sous vide cookers but once I tried the water oven I never used them again.

Had one, it broke. RMA'd it easily. Got the replacement, it broke. Bought Anova, had it 3 years now no problem. Seems like you get what you pay for

I have a first gen (non-wifi) Anova cooker. I enjoy and use it a lot; how does the monoprice sous vide cooker compare to Anova?

Personally I think the Sous Vide is one of those devices that will most likely gather dust in your drawer despite it being a legitimately brilliant product.

I have this. Works perfectly fine! Definitely worth buying at this price. WIFI functions suck, but I am doing fine without it.
Yeah I never got the wifi to work either. Works well otherwise

How would it be "sous vide", without the vacuum sealer?
Water submersion can seal the food almost as good. So if you don't cook that often, ziplocs can be a work around

The tub/container doesn't matter about BPAs because the water/tub never touch your food. Unsure about the vacuum sealed bags.

A 5 second Google search was difficult to end up on the Ziploc website [ziploc.com].

It's a fair point if you want to be pedantic about the French, but I'm pretty sure they named it that because vacuum sealing was standard when it was invented and "cuit au bain-marie" isn't quite as catchy. The vacuum packing doesn't actually make a difference compared to a ziploc bag. The water pressure collapses non-vacuum bags just fine. You get good contact and the cooking is the same.
Yes, humor intended -- I was just being "le pédant".

Why would you default to it being unsafe instead of looking for some sort of proof that bags that are called "food safe bags" are not safe?
That's exactly what Big Bag wants you to believe.

Amazon has this one on sale for roughly $3 more.

I'm wondering if the one dial control might be easier for a noob?

I don't know anything about Souse Vide but at this price point I'm willing to give it a try.

I've always wanted one of these but am also concerned about combining food + plastic + high temps. Pointing out the bags are BPA free isn't the last word.

"IPX7". Well yeah, I'd hope something you submerge in water would be waterproof.
