I wanted to upgrade to a smart Garage Door opener. Found this Chamberlain 0.5-HP myQ Smart Chain Drive Garage Door Opener with MyQ and Wi-Fi Compatibility for $118, regular price $148.
Installed last week, only replaced the motor on my current setup, and it's great so far.

I don't think this is a deal considering it's a chain drive device. Also no battery backup and .5 HP will struggle a little bit with a double garage door.

Belt drive all the way.

How easy is it to replace chain to belt? DYI type?

It probably can handle lightweight aluminum or cheapest door with no "beefy" metal parts and as long as track and rollers are lubricated so it moves easy but it's the weakest rated I think.

Replaced another .5hp that was working fine on my double door for 12 years. Only changed it for the myQ wifi ability.

Depends. I changed out a 15 yo chain Genie with a belt (Genie) last fall. I would say I am advanced DIY (For example, I finished my own basement), and I took my time it might have taken 2-3 hours or so. Luckily I was able to reuse some things - wiring, hanger for the opener itself (I have high ceilings in the garage). I did have to rework some of the end mount as it was a bit lower than the chain.

If you are swapping different brands the mount might change a bit and add time.

Opening time didn't really change (*slightly* faster) but the belt is substantially less noisy than the chain. Also, with the belt setting the limits is a lot easier than the chain where it had prox sensors.

If the springs are appropriately sized they will carry the bulk of the weight and a lower powered opener will work fine.

I thought Genie's had a life time warranty. "Lifetime warranty on motor and parts"
I have a Genie Excelerator screw drive on my big garage door. Had an issue with it and they sent me the parts to fix it, and the thing was well over 10 years old. The Excelerator version is also very fast to open compared to other models

For those envious of being able to open or close the garage over wifi, save money, time, and sweat and just buy the Chaimberlain MyQ Smart garage hub [amazon.com]. I bought a second one for myself because it was cheaper than buying a sensor for my second garage door. Every amazon prime day they drop their price a lot, and I pick them to give away as gifts.

The unit didn't die, I just decided to replace it after getting a deal on the belt unit.

Also, just because you mentioned it, I have 2 MyQ's and neither works on my new Genie door. Got a meross unit after dealing with incompetent Chamberlain CSR and haven't looked back.

I just installed a new chain drive today. The C273 model. Basically the model in this deal plus battery backup. It replaced a VERY old .5 hp chain drive.

The new chain drive is really very quiet compared to the old one. So, unless you have a bedroom adjacent to or above the garage, I don't see a need for a belt drive.

I also had to replace my torsion springs. The old opener had been working with only one torsion spring in working order and I can tell you from manually lifting the door multiple times that the single spring wasn't doing a thing. 1/2 hp is plenty for a double steel door.

Turn almost any dumb garage door opener (regardless of brand) into a smart one with the Chamberlain Garage door hub [amazon.com]. A heck of a lot easier and cheaper... and it can control two garage doors openers.

I upgraded my 15 yr old Chamberlain belt drive by just adding a meross WiFi garage door add-on for $35 to the existing unit. Works great, connect with Google and Alexa. Just need to verify your opener is compatible. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L5DP...UTF8&psc=1

I picked up a 1.25 hp chamberlain belt drive with myq and backup battery about a year and a half ago from a deal at lowes. It was 150-175, i cant remember exactly. I had to buy the extension for 8ft height door, so made it around $225 total.

I just got around to installing it and was replacing a 2 year old builder grade opener with chain drive. Took about 3 hours. It's time consuming, but not very difficult. Reused some of the parts attached to the door and wall. I tried to use the existing safety sensors, but wasnt working correctly, so had to run wires and install the chamberlain sensors.

It is much quieter and causes much less vibration. myq works perfectly also.

However, some openers are not compatible. I have a Genie Blue Max at my vacation home and I tried to install the myQ and learned it was not compatible. the Blue Max is screw drive so I'm not sure this would work, actually it would work but no battery back-up means it can't be sold in CA.
