I currently have two 8 port switches daisy chained. I assume using one would be more efficient.
Only if you are maxing out the 1gbps link frequently. Otherwise no real performance improvement.
In terms of power, you could potentially save a few cents per year….

Love the Wi-Fi comment. I have three runs to each of my rooms (only one to each bathroom) to ensure I have plenty of options. My Wi-Fi is only for smart home items and everything else is hardwired.
"Only one to each bathroom" he says… 😂

Thanks for the feedback.

My house has cat 5 and 6 ran to every room. I already have ubiquiti stuff but this would be easy for someone to plug all the ports in the house in

I have the TP Link 5 and 8 port switches. One each by the TVs and one by the main mesh router to connect the other two switches as well as our Ooma and my desktop.

Our buffering issues dropped to zero with TVs hardwired into the network. More than likely, most families in the world have their TVs (4k especially) as their biggest bandwidth hogs. If you can route that on a separate network of sorts, your WiFi isn't dealing with that traffic. So then the question really is about if your modem/service is up to snuff. If you have everything on WiFi, then your WiFi needs to be able to handle everything, always. Start throwing a bunch of smart devices on and suddenly you have 50 devices always on your network, which can be hard on it.

Can I use this in my Tiny House?
Yes you can use it in a tiny house, but the question is do you need it? How many devices do you have that are wired? if you have a lot then you could benefit from this.

You can provide power directly to the camera (i.e. running a separate cable from the closest power outlet) or by using a power injector. PoE is the most convenient option but there are alternatives.

I use it in my basement as the core of my network. I have two Cat 5e wires (I ran them back in 2008 and got the wire for free from a project I worked on) to each room of the house (except the bathrooms). Also the NAS, Ubiquiti cloud controller and wi-fi access points are directly plugged into it. I think around 5 of the ports are still free.

I have a ProSafe GS724t switch waiting in reserve to replace it when I finally get around to playing with VLANs.... but it's been a reliable switch for years, and silent since it has no fans.

I have an older TP-Link 16 port GB speed unmanaged one. I am running out of ports, but 16 is still fine. Is this worth the upgrade or wait for something better? My DSL is only 50MB max.

This is great. With my old switch I ran out of ports for each room. Now I can run drops to my bathrooms too.
