NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV 4K HDR Streaming Media Player $130

Lowest price I've seen in a long time. Had an alert set up but I've since repurposed an Intel PC-on-a-stick for my Kodi solution and it's working a treat so no use for a shield now. If you're looking for one, enjoy!

Do not buy this, I made the mistake myself a year or so back. Get the pro version. This non-pro tube version doesn't have enough ram and cpu in it that some apps like plex constantly flake out when streaming high bitrate 4k content. (for basic netflix, it'll be fine, but if you're a power user get the pro and save yourself the headache). I actually had to sell mine on ebay and buy the pro. PITA....Both nVidia and Plex were never able to resolve the problem, check the plex forums its well documented.

Same experience here! Haven't sold it, but most 4k content on Plex, Kodi, etc. breaks.

I've come to the same conclusion with mine. Originally thought the Tube would be good enough for Plex, but high bit-rate files and even some 1080p ones buffer at the start now. If I go back and restart it on the 1080p ones, it'll play right away. So Plex def has some issues to fix with the Tube, but seems like they're in a pissing match. What'd you get for yours on eBay? I can get $44 on Amaozn Trade-In right now, was hoping for a tad more. Def going to upgrade to the Pro.

They have the exact same processor, and the extra 1 gig of ram should make absolutely no difference for video playback.

It hasn't dropped below $150 in a while.

The gig of ram matters very much for buffer/cache size. They specifically said "high bitrate" because that is what it struggles with.

PS.

Ditch Plex, get syncler and a debrid service and you're all set.

I believe one is 32bit and other is 64bit but I could be wrong on that. The 1gb ram definitely makes a difference. Go search the plex forums for Nvidia shield tube and see what you find...

with the recent changes, half the home screen is now utilized for Ads. I would rather start looking at a roku or even a apple TV if I were to spend this much on a streaming device.

Bought this on prime day. Returned it the day after i got it. I really wanted to like it but unfortunately it did not play 4k rips from Plex. Get the pro version instead.

Waste of money. Spend a bit more and get the real Shield instead of this OR just buy a 4K Firestick.

Even the original 2016? Shield TV is better than this one as it will run 64 bit apps and has more RAM. The 2019 "Pro" model adds a slightly faster CPU and "AI" cores which allow the device to do upsampling to 4K which is generally considered one of the best algos out there. The Pro model also supports Atmos, which the original model never got support for AFAIK.
