It just depends on the date it was originally activated- I was able to get one open box with time remaining to add AppleCare+.

yeah definitely a gamble. i've gotten products with like 2 months left or close to a year for the regular warranty. most of the time I've gotten refurb or open box though it wasn't eligible for applecare..

The red face is actually nice. It's not bright like the band is.

You can buy a black simple cover for like $5 on Amazon. And a different color band. I paired mine with a black band

fossil.com had some of their apple watch bands on sale and with a coupon they came out at around $6 each. don't know if that or similar deal is still going on.
