Competition is good for the consumer, if the service stinks, it will go away on it's own. If there is a monopoly they can charge you as much as they like, and you have no other choice. No one is forced to use all of the available services at once, just bounce around, taking advantage of all the deals and offers.

I've heard many stories of people being charged, even though they canceled on time.

The issue I outlined was not the presence of ads

The issue is the presence of ads totalling more than 50% of the actual time of the content.

I have never once encounted a 5 1/2 minute ad break, let alone two, even on a FREE service
11mins is not "more than 50%" of a 30 minute episode, but if it's above average for an ad-supported service you pay for, then I'd say, "The ad-supported plan of that service sucks", not that the service sucks, in general. The ad-free plan is pretty good, and I've been enjoying a lot of great shows on it lately, for free. There are probably better options out there, sure, but this deal is for a free month of either plan, available to new AND returning subscribers, so there's little sense in complaining about the free ad-supported plan when you could just sign up for the ad-free plan for...free, lol.

Better yet, just cancel as soon as you sign up, lol. It doesn't end your service until the end of your billing period, after all.

In this case it isn't good for the consumer. Any channel That had 1 show people kind of liked 20 years ago thinks they should have their own streaming channel, so they put their 1 show on there then make a bunch of new garbage content as filler. So now not only are those channels not worth paying for because they only have that 1 show, they are also making it so streaming services like Hulu aren't worth it anymore because everyone is pulling the rights to their content to go make their 1 show crappy streaming service. Hulu is owned by Disney and Hulu and Disney+ both have the Simpsons, but Hulu doesn't have the old episodes and Disney+ doesn't have the newest episodes as they air like Hulu does. A crap move to have you subscribing to both. I currently don't have any TV subscriptions because of this. It's going to drive people back to cable.
Care to name a single example of a streaming service that was created because they had only "1 show that people kind of liked 20 years ago"? I can't think of any.

Also, Hulu has some really good original programming, so it's still worth subscribing for that, but there's no need to stay loyal and stay subscribed forever. Just watch the exclusive stuff you like and move on.

I'm spending about half as much as I was before cutting the cord, and I've got more content than I could ever hope to watch, so no, this isn't going to drive me back to cable, and probably not most other cord-cutters, either. You can go back to buying large bundles of crap you don't want to watch or don't have the time to watch, renting equipment for every TV, paying multiple taxes and fees that don't apply to cord-cutters, all while having to watch tons of ads no matter WHAT you watch if you want, but the vast majority of us are happier without all that, lol.

Or, if you got everything from one source, that is consumer friendly. If you want to jump around from service to service, that's on you. To claim that's the wise choice is sheer ignorance.
Sheer ignorance, and perhaps naivety and a lack of knowledge of history, is believing there's such a thing as "one source, that is consumer friendly", that has "got everything". That one source is called a monopoly, and the lack of competition ensures that monopolies aren't consumer friendly. If you want everything bundled together from one source at a high price, just go sign up for cable and leave streaming services behind, as they're not for you.

Yup. Happened to me. They didn't budge either, even after repeated calls. The website clearly listed the DAY I had to cancel by. I did. I was then charged anyway. According to customer service, they calculate it down to the hour/minute. I said that the website doesn't say that anywhere. They said tough luck.

Just did it..so maybe like 2 days prior I can just cancel it and I wont be charged? Never done this before first time

Thought about getting to check out the adult version of icarly, but 1. it looks very woke and 2. all these messages about it being hard to cancel...

can you cancel immediately and you still get your month or is it one of the ones where canceling makes you immediately lose access?
I don't understand why people are still waiting until the last minute to cancel streaming subscriptions. I'm pretty sure that's the only reason some people are being charged after they cancel, because they did it last-minute, after the exact time they signed up 30 days prior.

There needs to be a PSA to inform people that you can cancel all of them IMMEDIATELY after signing up, and you'll still get your month of service before it ends. I don't know of a single one that will immediately end your service, because that would mean they'd have to either partially refund you or keep your money, both of which would be a nightmare. With Paramount+ and many other services, it's very easy to cancel online, in your Account settings, without having to speak to anyone.

I signed up for the 2 month $1/mo service a month ago for paramount +, acorn tv and starz and was just charged 99cents on July 21 for each of them. I cancelled a one month 99cent streaming service for AMC+ two days before it was about to expire and it went through OK and I was not charged after that. I've also cancelled at the beginning of the last month and got it through the end of the month at the discount price and was not charged after that, so have had pretty good luck, as long as you put it on your calendar not to forget.Paramount+ has some stuff worth watching

watching some chappelle shows I never got to
one upon the time in the west is good
and the good fight might not be for everyone, but the writing is great and plot/sub plots keeps it interesting. recommend

... I personally use Netflix for a year (splitting the cost with a group) then grab Hulu every other year on a black Friday deal ($1.99)...
How did you find the Netflix group and set this up? Does it work like Visible - just join a group online? Or does your group consist of your personal family and friends?

Also, why every other year for the Black Friday Hulu deal? I also signed up for Hulu last Black Friday (what a great deal!) and was hoping to do it again this year. Do you have to be out a full year to be a "new" customer?

Thanks!

YYou've failed to grasp the concept completely. It is your raging and clearly intentional ignorance that there can be options of multiple platforms with the same content. Let's say you can use Netflix or Amazon Orime (bad examples, but play along). Both could have the same content because e toof deals with the producers of the content. You finally get so sick of Netflix's stupid "auto-preview" feature that they refuse to allow the customer to disable, that you tell them to screw off and you choose to support Amazon instead.

See, no monopoly. Now, go back to SJW class and find something else to rage against without having a clue if which you speak.
Lol, if anyone's raging, it seems to be you, with the numerous typos you're making. Also seems pretty silly of you to accuse me of being an SJW just because I acknowledge the fact that monopolies don't work out for consumers. That doesn't really have anything to do with social justice.

Anyways, you originally mentioned "one source", which is why I called it a monopoly. Now you're trying to move the goalposts and change your argument to be in favor of what, a duopoly with Netflix vs Amazon? That's not much better than a monopoly, and it's absurd to believe that they'd "have the same content". Content exclusivity is the biggest factor that draws new customers to a streaming service, not minor features that bug some people, so they'd still push for exclusivity deals and original content, like they do now.

Also, neither of these arguments change the fact that yes, it is a wise choice to jump from service to service because it saves you a LOT of money. If you're too lazy to do that, then again, just subscribe to a cable package, or Amazon Prime Video w/ multiple Channels added on. Whatever floats your boat.

About 6 months ago, i had trouble canceling.
It is diffcult to explain in few words what the ''trouble" was: I canceled but the Paramount website kept saying my subsciption was still active and i was going to be charged for another month. I tried to remove my payment method so if Paramount went to charge anyways, it would not go though but, could not remove the method from thier site.
Sent a letter to customer service(which was difficult to find a contact method) to cancel.cancel, cancel!!!!! immmediately, i said immediately. They replied "done". Think i lost 2 or 3 days left to my remaining paid service but i was so happy my separation from Parmount was over

What's odd, CBS Access had outstanding customer service, never had trouble in 6 plus years with them

Free is free, but I'll still complain that the Paramount app on Roku doesn't work at all as of Friday. It worked for a couple weeks then stopped working about 1 week ago.
