I was at costco today and was drooling on these, super light-weight.

Is there any chance (though slim) that the ssd and ram can be upgraded or are they soldered in?

This is a model which ended on N. It looks like hybrid between 2020 and 2021 - processor is 11th gen,
but Thunderbolt only 3. 2021 models with P at the end have Thunderbolt 4.
At least 17 inch model has 2 slots for NVMe SSDs. Not sure about 15 inch.

This is a fair price for what you get, but 1920x1080 at 15.6" is meh, and not touch screen. I have a 17" Gram (a previous version) and the larger screen with higher resolution and sub 3lb weight makes it feel like it's worth the price tag. This one, not so much.

The price is $400 more than the 16gb/512gb (17"). When the sale starts, this model you linked to, will be over $600 more. I don't think that's worth it for 16 gb more of memory. A 512 m.2 is around 80 bucks.

Yes, it would be. The 16 and 17" models have taller 16x10 screen and display more lines of code, but they are more expensive than this model. This would be very easy to carry around due to its light weight. It probably weighs less than a paper textbook. Compiling programs benefit from fast storage and this has it.

Not familiar with Costco policy. Just bought this for my wife two weeks ago for 900. Do I have to do much to get a price match assuming eligible?
Costco has a 90day return on laptops and 30day price match with your original receipt

I know this fits the "super lightweight" category but other than that...
which do you think would be better cost-benefit - LG gram or the HP for 100$ less?
https://www.costco.com/hp-15.6-to...64365.html

since the HP has upgradable RAM i'm not really concerned about that, and the weight under 4lb is reasonable

any other preformance/quality comparison?

thanks!

While they share the same CPU, these two laptops aren't really comparable or sit in the same category. HP is twice as heavy and much worse battery life. Memory size is also 4gig less than the LG. If your primary interest is for a thin and light ultra book, LG is a better fit. LG also have a better screen.

if you don't care about weight, performance on the i5 CPU should be similar, however.

The 1366x768 resolution guarantees it's a TN screen, which will wash out when you're not exactly looking at it on center. Blacks will be gray instead. Saving $100 with the HP would not be smart.

Not everyone wants a 17-inch, light as that one is. For those who travel a lot, for example, a 17-inch is just about impossible to use on a plane. Even a 15.6-inch is a little tough if you're in coach.

I get that. But if you're going for a 15" 1080P lightweight laptop there are more choices than there are in the 17" 1600P category.
