This is contrary to what the Mayo Clinic, NIH, and many other respected institutions indicate. There have been no peer-reviewed studies that show this.
In fact, a recent article pulled off pubmed cross-referenced 19 studies with zero indications of this across over 1600 subjects.

Everyone should do their own research and ignore me, I'm not peer reviewed.

My sleep therapist says that 3mg is a good amount for your body to create nature melatonin. She said 5mg or more and your body will produce less over time thus requiring you to take more. Just what I've been told.

5MG is on the high side. If you are just starting out, you should start with 1mg and see how you do, then work up to 3, , etc. Everyone is different, but many people find that too much melatonin can have the opposite effect. For me, the 1mg time release pill works wonder. The outer layer dissolves quick to knock me out in about 30 minutes, and then the inner layer kicks in 2-3 hours later to keep me from waking up (a problem many people have). This is what I use and swear by it https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1

Herbal Natural Sleep Proprietary Blend: Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) aerial, Passionflower (Passiflora incamata L.) aerial, Melatonin (5 mg)+ 45mg

Ingredients:
Cane Sugar, Tapioca Syrup, Water, Pectin, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Natural Flavor, Colors Added (Purple Carrot Juice Concentrate), Carnauba Wax

FYI: Some people will claim that the level of melatonin is quite high and that you should only require 300 mcg

Seemed like a good deal plus it was $9.99 in store and then it took the $8 off so for $2, good deal.

FYI to people who actually use Tylenol PM or Unisom or Sominex: This contains NO sleep drugs. Just melatonin.

I guess "simple slumber" is their marketing term for holistic or herbal.

Someone on the thread last week stated similar with many supporting articles. I had been taken 10mg of Melatonin every night for 5-6 months. Basically I was told that I messed up my body and self production of melatonin. for the recommended amount, you would have too take like less than 1/5 of a gummy which is a little insane to me. Why dont they just make them the recommended amount.

Made me realize that I should stop taking them and I have quit now for just about a week.

I chop the gummiest into just about the smallest piece I can still chew. It gives me about a half hour window of feeling really, really drowsy. If I'm still up and doing stuff, though, I'll stay awake.

For cutting back, you might want to gradually reduce your medicated dosage instead of going cold turkey. Usually cutting stuff out wholesale is much harder on your system than tapering.
