Solid copper wires vs CCA (copper clad aluminum)
Shows my ignorance. I wasn't aware that cmr was a higher level than cl2. Thanks.

Anyone have any success running poe/ubiquiti cameras outdoors with the cable? It looks like there is some cables that are rated specifically for exposed UV.
I would buy cable specifically for outdoor. It is usually shielded and waterproof which i believe this is not

This cable will disintegrate in a year or two when exposed to sunlight. Anything outdoors need to be UV rated.

I agree.

In regards to smurf tube, is there any reason not to use the actual blue color kind for low voltage applications? I remember reading something about orange-colored tube being required in some places but never looked into it more.
The blue stuff meets NEC for both high and low voltage requirements.

Commercial installations might like orange to distinguish between the two. But I rarely see the orange stuff sold in home centers. This stuff is big, bulky, and low profit, so I would imagine they don't want to stock two similar product lines when one will cover both.

Could I put this in buried conduit? I have a shop roughly 100' from the house and I want to cut this up into smaller pieces and terminate them then put 3-4 of them in…. You know, redundancy and all Smilie. Question is then, Could I put it in buried conduit?

This is not wet location rated. Anything underground should be wet location rated.

If running between buildings, you should use fiber to avoid ground loops and static charges from lightening.

If you run copper, you better darn well know what you are doing, or you could start blowing equipment up.

Is monoprice still doing free replacements for the cable that was recalled last year?

I would stay away from the CCA stuff. Ran 800ft and had more bad cable runs than 100k ft of solid copper. The CCA is quite brittle and hard to work with.

You want CMX rated cable for that, not CMR. Check out SnazzyLabs on YouTube he has a recent 20 min video going thru his recent house wiring (much of it being outside) where he set up Unifi POE cameras and APs.

Throw it on 1.5x or skip around because he really covers everything which you might not need. IIRC he was using identically rated cables at this but from CableMatters, both in CMR and CMX flavors.

Monoprice indicates that 25NTWRK is a valid code as well, giving a discount of -$24.25 (25% off total) at checkout for a total of $72.74 before tax on this spool (the one in OP's is CAT6BULK for -$12 and cannot be combined with 25NTWRK).
did it work for you?
