In regards to smurf tube, is there any reason not to use the actual blue color kind for low voltage applications? I remember reading something about orange-colored tube being required in some places but never looked into it more.
Commercial installations might like orange to distinguish between the two. But I rarely see the orange stuff sold in home centers. This stuff is big, bulky, and low profit, so I would imagine they don't want to stock two similar product lines when one will cover both.

If running between buildings, you should use fiber to avoid ground loops and static charges from lightening.
If you run copper, you better darn well know what you are doing, or you could start blowing equipment up.
I would stay away from the CCA stuff. Ran 800ft and had more bad cable runs than 100k ft of solid copper. The CCA is quite brittle and hard to work with.
Throw it on 1.5x or skip around because he really covers everything which you might not need. IIRC he was using identically rated cables at this but from CableMatters, both in CMR and CMX flavors.
