This seems like a good deal on a huge TV. I can't find much info on this model and how it might compare to the UN8570 (that has been as low as $1300 recently) so I'm hoping to spur some conversation with this thread. Is it the Costco version of the NANO90? Is it significantly better that the UN8570 that's on their website right now?

Yeah never heard of that model. I have seen the nano90. Maybe that is the same and it is just a Costco only model.

Def not the Nano 90. Pretty sure it's just the 2020 UN8570 model you mentioned rebranded as a 2021 model. I've got pictures of both boxes from the store, and it looks like the UN9070 has the identical remote, instead of the updated remote that comes with the new UP8000 series.

If it's the 8570 it is a massive tv that is also very dark. HDR is worthless. We returned ours next day.

Specs from LG look promising. Unclear if any of the 4 HDMI ports are HDMI 2.1 (4K 120Hz) capable.
  • Full array local dimming
  • IPS Panel
  • 120Hz Native Refresh rate (240 TruMotion)

Update: nvm apparently this model is the entry level w/o these premium specs.

Updated Specs
  • 120Hz Native Refresh Rate
  • HDMI 2.0 (No 4K 120Hz)
  • Edge Lit

Your link is for the 2019 SM Series, not the 2021 UN Series. The SM series was LG's IPS flagship in 2019, and was replaced by the NANO 90 Series in 2020. The UN Series is entry level and does not have Nanocell technology. As mentioned earlier in this thread, this will be more in-line with the UN8570, and will not have local dimming.

UN8570 is a killer budget big screen TV that's quite feature rich for the price. But I got mine for $1300 from costco w/ extended warranty. Not sure I would pay $1700 for it. At that price you're hitting the next tier.

Not sure if anything's changed much, but my general experience with LG TV's that aren't OLED have been that they're total trash. Absolute trash. Sometimes its just inherent in the tech they use (ex. RGBW), other times its just overall horrible QC (i.e. DSE issues, horrible banding, horrible backlight bleed, etc.).

It's not like there's a lot of (decent) TV's to choose from TBH. If you're in the low to mid range, go TCL. If you're in the mid to mid-high range, Samsung or Sony. If you're in the high to premium range, Samsung , LG OLED, Sony OLED.

In the latest rtings reviews Hisense has overtaken TCL in budget, the 6 series TCL is worth a look at even upper midrange budget, and the Vizio p75h1 took overall HDR scores. Vizio also makes a OLED now. (side note, all the bestbuys near me have the 55 from $700-800 open box, not sure why so many? I would consider for a bedroom tv if I did had not got a deal on a CX).

According to vizio Reddit, people have been returning PQ and oled due to numerous bugs on power and hdmi 2.1. Vizio 2020/2021 series seems to be terrible gaming TVs.

If all you care about is size and not brightness, contrast, and HDR, then go for it.

This is a very mediocre TV. Again though, some people can't/don't notice or care.

Are there any cheaper tv that is bright? Or must I do OLED? What would you guys consider a good bright tv? Large would be nice as well.

Below is the direct link to the TV. Based on the specs, this model seems to be a downgrade from the 2020 UN8570 since the UN9070 specs show not supporting HDMI 2.1.

EDIT: 8/9/21... Website description has been modified to include HDMI 2.1 support.
