How can you call it "old tech" when its replacement/upgrade is not even out yet?

Old tech? This is state of the art. Even the new 11th gen from Intel can't compete. If you think this is old tech, you should avoid giving computer advice.

Tempting but other than for desire, I don't think a 5800x would be of any benefit to me over my 2700x. Now on my video encoding rig / plex server... maybe. Games likely wouldn't see a difference since I'm GPU limited anyway

Put Micro Center in the title so we don't waste our time.
100% Agree, it is only courteous to note that considering they refuse to ship to those of us without a store in our state.

Just created a new build with this processor i bought from bestbuy and price matched 3 weeks ago for 369.99 and jus pricematched it again for 359.99 saved $10 more bucks🤣😂
They refused to do that for me, as there was no shipping method for the product at Microcenter.

"Micro Center" is in the front page thumb. This "no store" sort of thing is always present. I don't have (near me) a Costco or a Target or a Fry's or a Tractor Supply etc. and they dont ship most of the time. Its just how the stones roll. I do have a Micro Center and it makes-up for not having most of the others (a Costco would be nice)

Meh i picked up 15% on 1440p going from a 2700x to a 3600(OC 4.3ghz all core, 2700x was stock). the 2000-3000 jump will see more fps vs the 3000-5000 jump. I just have a 1070 non ti.

Intel Alder Lake Desktop CPUs and the Z690 platform are expected to launch on the 27th of October & will be the first mainstream consumer platform to utilize PCIe5.0 and DDR5.

Old tech Ryzen 7 5800X should be about $300 now and $200 after October.
I would buy it if "current tech" wasn't hard to come by.

The shortages in finding DDR5 and the new motherboards will make buying anything next to impossible.

You also left out that only (a few) Nvme take advantage of PCIe 4.0. GPUs do not. That makes PCIe 5.0 not worth it yet.

Also every gen of Intel pretty much means you need a new mobo also, and w ddr5 this is going to be 100 and super expensive. I haven't read if these support ecc but I'm waiting until that becomes baked before I consider. In the meantime my machine booting in 5 seconds with measly pci 4 is ok.

Yeah, these prices are fine, but in 3 months Alder Lake 12th gen will launch and have better single thread and multithread performance, DDR5, PCIe 5, etc. Basically a next-gen CPU. Even if youre not interested in buying a better CPU because youre already on AM4, AMD WILL drop prices to compete because Zen 4 launches in 12 months, so price cuts is all AMD can do.

If youre not on AM4 already, Zen 3 is a dead end socket, as Zen4 is on AM5. Also LGA1700 (Intel 12th gen socket) is expected to last through 14th gen, meteor lake, Intel 4 node with tiles (chiplets), so youre 'investing' in a 3 year platform vs a deadend with AM4 or LGA1200.

Ridiculous for anyone in NYC. That's a tiny difference in the bottom line for spending more on gas/fare/time/etc.

We can all sympathize on proximity to Fry's: they closed all stores for good earlier this year. [arstechnica.com]
