How can you call it "old tech" when its replacement/upgrade is not even out yet?

Remember if you live in NYC area the Micro Center in Paterson NJ only charges 3.2% tax instead ofthe apporx 8.9 yet charged in NYC and Yonkers

Old tech? This is state of the art. Even the new 11th gen from Intel can't compete. If you think this is old tech, you should avoid giving computer advice.

Ridiculous for anyone in NYC. That's a tiny difference in the bottom line for spending more on gas/fare/time/etc.
But you can go to the topless doughnut store around the corner!!!!

Maybe.
But if you're also buying mobo, ram. gpu etc.then you can get a good bill going
Micro Center is set-up for the broad, system buy.and many people spend over $1000. I rarely but one things at MC (a MacBook Air once)
Plus in the metro area at this time of year, many NY people end-up in NJ anway so a side stop is not like going to Narnia.
A $2400 MacBook Pro could be approx 215 vs 38 in tax

Anyone know power usage? My prebuilt desktop came with a 5700g which sells for quite a bit but the tdp is only 65w on it. This one according to AMD website is 105w but the specs are so similar I can't imagine real life scenario is similar

MY post said "NYC area." Most of the smart people have fled the city and are in the burbs now. They dont want to go to Brooklyn or Queens if NJ is almost the same drive (@ less shootins etc)

Yea, it's true. Cpu upgrade is not that necessary. 4790ks are still rocking these days. $300 is a great price. I also bought open box mobo at microcenter. Works well.
True to a certain point. I could probably have kept on gaming and working on my 3770 for another two years. But there's a lot of side advances since 2012 - nvme, usb 3.1+, usb c, lots more fan headers (I have a ridiculous 11 unused fan headers right now, or something like that) case chassis differences, and don't forget windows 11. Plus, handbrake takes about 1/3 of the time and there's very real work benefits.

Meh i picked up 15% on 1440p going from a 2700x to a 3600(OC 4.3ghz all core, 2700x was stock). the 2000-3000 jump will see more fps vs the 3000-5000 jump. I just have a 1070 non ti.
Without the gpu shortage, you could have spent the same money (~300) and probably almost doubled your fps (rtx 3060).

Intel Alder Lake Desktop CPUs and the Z690 platform are expected to launch on the 27th of October & will be the first mainstream consumer platform to utilize PCIe5.0 and DDR5.

Old tech Ryzen 7 5800X should be about $300 now and $200 after October.
nothing more fun than beta testing a big little cpu design and ddr5 at the same time from buggy Intel.
Just like rocket lake hype, Adler Lake going to be slower than AMD again.
give it a rest. nobody believes intel marketing.
and the 5800x is a CPU you can buy today.

I can validate that. I was in Microcenter in Tustin, CA today. The price was between $1600 - $2100. They actually restocked 3070 & 3080 while I was there. But I didn't bother.

Apple hasn't taught you yet that the latest model can still be considered old tech?

But yes this is already outdated. Buying anything now without DDR5 support is just dumb.

No PCIE5
No DDR5
NO usb4

old tech.
Unless you have a "current" motherboard and RAM to match with this?

Can someone recommend a CPU for me? I just play CSGO and basically nothing else. I have a 5900x but I think I don't need that and purchased a 5600x to replace it. But now this deal came up. How does this CPU stack up against the other two I have?
According to Steam, 39% of gamers are still on 4 cores. 32% play with 6 cores and 13% play with 8 cores. Less than 1% play with 12 cores. Most people are on medicore PCs. If you play at 1080P then a Ryzen 2600 and Nvidia 1060 will get you through 90%+ of games. 12 core cpus are a waste for games as far as bench stats go.12 core cpus are a production thing. But some people ( Tech Deals on Youtube) say everything seems smoother (more cores = less swapping during multitasking) In any case a 5600 is fine. 8 cores are nice for future (consoles going 8 cores) but not a must have at this time. Alas Zen 4 isn't projected to come out until end of 2022. I'm going with 8core myself. I was jjust hoping for better mobos with more USB-C
