I need a small knife 2.5" or smaller blade. I ordered a Yellow Wedge (440) 2.25" and an LK6 (7crmov) 2.5". I was just wondering which is better? I read somewhere not to buy anything lower than 8crmov because it won't hold an edge, while 9crmov is better than AUS-8. I'll probably keep one of the two.

Camillus is a respectable knife maker and these are some good deals on glove box or giveaway ball-bearing folders with decent blade material.

The Tyrant 3" Drop-Point Tactical Knife is $12.72 for me. It's not a bad little knife which comes w/ leather sheath and lists for $39 on Amazon.

Camillus Tyrant, 7.25-Inch Fixed Blade Knife [amazon.com]

But, the steel in Camillus knives is Titanium Bonded!!!!! /s

8Cr13MoV from a manufacturer with a decent heat treat is usually as "low" quality a stainless steel as I am willing to go with for an EDC, but 7Cr17 is no slouch in the budget Chinese stainless steel world. If treated right it can be a decent steel with okay edge retention, good toughness and good corrosion resistance. It's usually only hardened to around the 55-56 HRC range which makes it a little better for rough use than some other harder steels. Think of it like a slightly improved 440A.

The Wedge is actually 420 stainless, somewhat of a bottom of the barrel stainless. It won't hold an edge as long, but it's still fine for a bargain priced general use knife. Kershaw uses 3cr13MoV in some of it's little blades which is similar to 420, but I'm more confident in their heat treatment than I am with Camillus. (But, Kershaw steel isn't Titanium Bonded!!!!! like Camillus blade are. /s)

I'm thinking you will be happier with the LK6, especially since it has a G10 handle (on one side at least) and rides on bearings. It has a pretty good flipper action from the reviews I've read.

Remember, my comments are considering these are bargain priced, basic knives. They won't be dangerous to use or fail to cut if kept sharp, but you will need to sharpen them more often. You may also have to keep an eye out for screws backing out (thread locker is our friend!) and make sure they stay clean and oiled occasionally.

If you were willing to spend ~$25, that would open up a whole world of knives that you may ultimately be happier with. Check out the CKRT Pilar [amazon.com] or Squid [amazon.com], or a Kershaw Shuffle I or II [amazon.com], if so. Or even the Ganzo Firebird F759M for $16 shipped [powercutlery.com] if you don't mind knock-offs.

Or, you can just get something like THIS [ytimg.com] and tell everyone at the office (in your best Duke Nukem voice) "I will not be limited to a 2.5" blade like some beta male!!!"

(Sorry, I'm having a little too much fun today.)

I snagged a few. Always nice to have something to toss in a bag or the truck that is decent but you don't have to worry both losing or abusing.

Thanks

Cold steel rush ? I am glad I missed that. I still have stuff new in the box from the LT spec pro deals a few years ago.
