I had to pay tax on the full amount of $7 so it was $2.36 plus 51 cents of tax. 22% sales tax.

I don't think I am normally charged tax on a mgr coupon am I?

I think this is normal, at least in California. I know Costco would do the same thing for manufacture rebates; they charge tax on the full amount then they take off the manufacture rebate.

It's pretty standard on Walgreens deals. It's annoying to be sure. I just factor in the amount of tax as to if I will do the deal or not. In this case it's still pretty inexpensive shampoo.

Thank you for remind me about tax calculation at Walgreen.
When I review my other order of L'Oreal shampoo and conditioner, it look like they took down the coupon from total and tax it. I could see the manufacturer coupon as rebate which in most case tax included. It's really heavy tax in CA also.
Just like CreditGuy, consider the whole total of the deal whether worthwhile or not.
