The build quality and ports are similar to both the models. But you are getting a more powerful Processor (6 Core vs 8 Core), slightly powerful Integrated Graphics, 4GB extra Ram but 256GB SSD which is half the size of the Costco deal. So, if you need the extra performance then the extra price is worthy of paying, but only if you are needing that. For basic and even some demanding tasks, 5500U is perfectly fine.

Another fact just wanted to let you know is that in IdeaPad 3, 4GB Ram is soldered in the motherboard and one Ram slot which is holding the 8GB module and you can add total of 36GB by adding a 32GB Ram on that slot. However, only 8GB portion of whatever the total size is, will be running in dual channel, restricting the performance of the GPU by a good margin and the CPU, but in a lesser extent.

The HP model, on the other hand, has two user accessible Ram slots, currently hosting 8GB stick to each. You can replace both of them and can go up to 64GB, using two 32GB stick.

See deal was working. There was a ":" before the link in the post due to a typo which I have corrected. Thanks for pointing out.

That is one heck of a processor for the money. Yes this is gonna be plasticy and flimsy but if you're an adult that knows how to not throw a laptop around a room like a toddler, this should be a fast laptop for 5+ years.

How is this compared to Costco for $510? Also how can you get square trade warranty if you buy from HPi think the major down part is 250 nits instead of 300?
