I got this set without the sub and paired it with a SVS PB2000 and it sounds amazing. I think I paid $399 and was definitely worth it. Bought some in-ceiling atmos speakers and that took it to a whole different level. I dont think the klipsch reference series is any better but the reference premiere would be.
Good beginner set but terrible subwoofer. Get the set without the sub for $399 and get a nice 15" sub elsewhere.

How is this compared to the Klipsch reference series?
the one that goes on sale for 600 all the time
Reference series is definitely brighter sounding. These towers lack the clarity the Klipsch do. The sub is meh, good enough but not going to get the best lows. Overall this is a great starter set or something to start with and replace as you go. For home theatre and music this will pair well with a nice receiver.

This is a great beginner set, especially at this price. It will be a big upgrade if you're coming from a sound bar. Just note that this set has a V shaped sound, meaning boosted bass and boosted treble. The towers roll off on the bass very early so a good subwoofer is a must. Dual 12 inch subwoofers will complement this system nicely. I wouldn't spend too much on a subwoofer, unless you're planning to upgrade this set in the future. The Klipsch 12 for $149 is a good match for this set.
Ordered 8/6, received 8/11, pretty quick shipping.
But, one of the 809 tower speakers was damaged in shipment, and I am still talking with adorama support trying to get it replaced
The speakers do look and sound nice, but the wood is pretty cheap fiberboard that will damage easily. If it was real wood the shipping damage would have not been as noticeable, but the black is gone and the wood is chipping away. Not sure if there is an easy way to paint/repair this type of wood?

Nearly all speakers are particle board, you're not going to get solid wood under 1k/speaker

Wait another week or two, you will see it pop up again
