DDR3 Gen 6 was the first processor that supported DDR4.
I paid $140 for a gen 6 four core I5 Del 7040 with HDMI and two DP's. This has one DP.โ
I would suggest you try for Gen 7 as it is the lowest one that supports Windows 11 possibly. They seem to be back tracking so it is possible older machines will upgrade but so far not so. The price went way up to get Gen 7 which is why I went with Gen 6. The 7040 is high end the only one that supported DDR 4 at the time the 5040 and 3040 did not. The 3040 also had a poorer motherboard. It supports up to 64GB of RAM with four slots the 5040 and 3040 only have two slots.
That said this 7040 also came with SSD. I added bluetooth and wifi 6 as it came with neither for $30. It is very fast and easily supports 4k @ 30hz. So far 8GB has been plenty for me so I sit with two slots empty.
This is a terrible "deal". It's a low-end i3 from 8 years ago, has no HDMI output, and I've seen non-profits that are part of the Emergency Broadband Benefit selling i5's from 2013 for all of $20, when they have stock available.
Compare and contrast this "deal" to HP's $399 AMD Ryzen 5 5500U laptop from Wal-Mart, which you can use as a desktop if you really want to.
Four times the money? Apples to Oranges.
It has a DP so a simple DP to HDMI meets your HDMI want. Or just use a DP if your monitor supports DP. I use a DP to HDMI and it works great even though I have an HDMI.
I agree you can find far better for not much more. 6th gen I3 for that price is possible and an I5 for about $50 more.โ
i did it about 2-3 weeks ago on an HP. Used OEM disc to trigger SLP activation in Win7p, then used the ms win10 download tool to upgrade in-place. Once 10 activated online, did a clean 10 install.
I have been able to just use the Win 7 Pro key when I install Win 10. For corporate laptops and desktops that have the OEM key it has always worked. I have done it 6 or so times now.

Are you really telling people to pay 400% more? The better solution to this is hitting up ebay or other places for refurbished business PC's that are a couple years old.
This absolutely isnt the best deal, just whats there right now that is buy it now, if youre willing to wait and search other sites you can probably shave off $50 or get an even better system https://www.ebay.com/itm/32474337...Sw82hfvXDh
$250 Intel Core i5-8400, 12GB RAM, 1TB HDD, HDMI. Probably within 10% performance of the 5500u besides IGP. Just slap in the cheapest SSD you can find over 64gb for windows and call it a day.
I've been in a couple of dedicated Goodwill computer stores lately and, like you, can unfortunately confirm that Goodwill has experienced the same demand as every other part of the PC supply chain. Locations that previously stocked 6-core Intel systems and off-lease product only a few generations behind the current are now suddenly stocked with a few paltry Core 2 Duo systems(!).

Yes, I'm sorryโ I should've mentioned that as an easy alternative. But then the COA sticker key can't be repurposed ๐
More useful when they come with a win10 "refurbished" sticker I guess

Thanks! Wish it supports Gen 3, but seems no.
I have a spare 3570k(actually also a Dell motherboard from ebay after my msi mb died). Tbh, it works well last year for most games I played (with a 2080ti/5700xt) before the msi mb died.
