This is incorrect and covered in OPs description. Motorola offers instructions on how to open the 2nd ethernet port for LAG.

NOTE: The MB8600 supports LAG on Ports 1 & 2 only, for speeds up to about two Gigabits per second.

Granted I would appreciate fiber as well but most people are at the mercy of the ISP running fiber to their neighborhood first. You are acting like everyone has that as an option but unfortunately most don't.
Depends what ISP speeds you get. The 6141 is rated for 343/131 and I'd leave a bit of a buffer so a bit below that. If it's working and below that there's no reason to upgrade.

This only has a single gigabit port so that means you can go above a single gigabit speed
MB8600 has 4 ethernet ports if you pull up the yellow plastic on back. You can Combine Port 1 and 2 for Link Aggregation and get up to 2Gbps if also have router that supports Link Aggregation.

Yeah this is nicer...I didn't realize how difficult it is to find a LAG router. Honestly I just need to go ubiquiti I think. I have orbi for now but even all these wifi6 gigabit routers don't always LAG or a 2.5gb port

I'd say between the Moto and Arris. Arris owns Motorola and motorola is actually the old Zoom. Both use the exact same chipset but despite the Arris getting good reviews as well - I d go with the Motorola because it is in a significanty larger casing which should help quite a bit with heat dissapation. The S33 is tiny.
I went with Motorola for this exact reason (larger casing = better heat dissipation) and am fully satisfied with the modem. Has been rock solid. I initially had some challenges with the modem not having solid uplink but it turned out that my cable line to the house was severely damaged and quite a few years old. Once they replaced the cables completely from modem to junction box, I dont have any issues whatsoever with my connection. I don't even have gigabit service yet but it would be foolish to get an older model if one is looking to buy one now.

Amazon has it for the same price $129.
The next level up is a slight upgrade which is the MB8611 3.1 that does 2.5 Gbps, but it's identical other than that.

Bought the 8600 in Jan this year, and it went dead in about 5 months time. Warranty covered it though, but still. Not sure if I get a lemon or not, but I am going to stay away from Motorola, if the replacement failed again.

I have a Netgear CM500, internet drops in and out of service 3-4 times a day. I don't think it's the router that is the problem. Internet is 100mbps so the CM500 is fine in terms of bandwidth, just wondering if this thing would be more stable.

Last time when similar model MB8611 was on sale at Staples, I bought it and tried it for 10 days. I found many issues with it and finally returned it and used my 3.0 model which is handling about 400mbps.
  1. startup took 10 times longer. about 10 to 15 minutes to make all the connections
  2. Everyday, once or twice my connection dropped and waiting for resetting connections was not working. Every time I had to manually turn it off and turn it on again
  3. My connection speed dropped to around 270-280 and it was not stable whatsoever. Sometimes it was as low as 20 mbps
  4. So many lost packages and retries specially in higher channels.
Needless to say that going back to my older Arris 3.0 modem resolved all the issues.
Some of this might be because of the wiring at my home or my neighborhood, and amount of noise on higher channels. But some of them are just poor hardware and software. This modem is really a garbage. Spend a little more and buy one of DOCSIS 3.1 modems from Arris or Netgear.

I personally have the MB8611 and would recommend it over the 8600 just for ease of use to get speeds over 1gig. I've had both modems with both giving me no issues at all and I monitor my networks.

MB8600 = Four 1Gig ports (Port 1 and 2 can be set up under LAGG, but will need a router that supports it as well).

MB8611 = One 2.5Gig port.

I have a 6141 too that I bought in 2017 for $30 refurbed. I have a 300mbps connection on Optimum/Cablevision and sometimes the connection chokes on Zoom calls.

Wondering if this is a worthwhile investment.

Also you can PM it with BBY and turn in any old router or modem for a 15% off coupon through their in-store recycling program (YMMV). Definitely call ahead because they've been off and on with the program since covid.

Have this modem. It's really not stable with Comcast and I've gotten nowhere with Motorola support. House wiring is fine, yet it will drop and not reconnect until physically restarted.

I ended up getting a smart plug flashed with Tasmota that pings Google every few minutes to see if it needs to be power cycled.

When it does work, though, I'm still constantly worrying about going over the 1TB monthly cap.

Might not be an issue with your modem. If you're regularly getting 300mbps that should handle Zoom calls fine. Could be router or AP/wired connection or something else entirely. Modem could be the issue if it's failing but it's not super common, you'd need to do some more troubleshooting.
