Not only can you disinfect them but you can but you can buy silicone tips from Apple stores for like $8 (2 pairs) and you have a decent chance that they'll come with unused tips because they ship with 3 sizes. I wouldn't but regular AirPods used but Pros are fine. The tips are completely closed off from the AirPods so no wax will ever touch the actual pods

For reference Walmart sold/shipped refurbished often go on sale for $129 and many claim they're practically new (but obviously still YMMV).

Too much risk of getting a fake one from eBay, even from Amazon used. They are very hard to differentiate from genuine ones unless you know what exactly to look for.
Buy them at your own risk.

Not worth it, with the AirPods Pro 2 expected to come out later this year.

Normally I would buy at this price but since these are a used product that has battery life issues and probably isn't covered under Apple warranties for battery replacement this just isn't a great deal.

When they were $100 I bought used ones from Amazon, but they had some mic issues. Luckily, it was still under warranty and the Apple store just replaced both buds for free

Check the serial number against the warranty calculator online to see if it's legit.

But I agree that there are a huge number of counterfeits, and I would not buy from anyone but a licensed retailer.
