its a good deal for that unit, but for most people the AI object detection isn't necessary and so the s5max on sale is a smarter buy.
i know this because i have an s6max.
You have proof? Because I'm interested in this due to having a newborn, if I move her swing in a different part of the room, won't I have to remap a vacuum that doesn't have the detection feature?

Google the ai object detection. It uses a camera. S5 still has lidar, it will see your moved baby swing just fine.

You don't need the AI for that. The LIDAR will be able to remap something like that after a pass or two. I have an older S5 and I can move around furniture whenever I want and it will recognize that and usually after a pass or two it will remap that area.
I returned my s6maxv due to charging speed issues. Would take at least 2-3 times longer to charge than my s5 and s4.
No s5max to compare to but my s6max is rad. Again i just dont need the cameras, i kept it because it works great. It does have. Faster processor than the s5.

I have the s5max with a newborn and a dog. The first time you map, pick up EVERYTHING off the floor so it can see the whole room. But after that, I leave the dog bed down sometimes, the swing down sometimes, it will just bump into it and move on. No need to remap. Just make sure you pick up little things like toys first.
I got the s5max $350 open box and consider it a great deal. If you don't need the mopping, my understanding is the s4max is the same thing, which I've seen for around $300.

I own an S5 max for nearly 2 years now. There is no reason to need the camera version (S6).
Especially with the newest updates, the last year has been amazing in terms of mapping and recognizing if things move and correctly updating the map. The vacuum space detection works in two different ways:
-The Lidar is constantly on while the vacuum is moving, confirming the "saved" map. And boy does it do this part well. Because it's not camera based, it works in the dark, no lights necessary. Under the bed, couch, coffee table, etc...
-it has a soft bomber zone in the front, that compresses on impact. Sometimes, if something has drastically moved, normally more relevant for smaller/skinnier items, it will slow down and soft bump/touch to confirm it's there. For example, it does this with my curtains that reach the floor, since they are constantly in a different spot and moving with the wind.

You only need a vacuum with AI camera to detect dog sh*t, small toys, socks and similar small objects that can result in a catastrophe if run over.
