I haven't done the research but the cheapest I've seen them before is right around $50.

Well, I guess it's all relative. I paid significantly more for the Hue strip and that was when it was a FP deal. For someone in the smart light ecosystem, I think this is the cheapest it's been. There probably are some cheaper unbranded options but for either Hue or Kasa, I think this is the lowest it's been and a good deal (well duh, I posted lol laugh out loud)

So why are these so much more expensive than, say: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N1CMGQQ ?

I honestly don't own either (I have the Hue) so can't say from personal experience and I'm sure others here would know more, but from what I read just now some of the benefits of Kasa vs Govee are: Kasa has more accurate lighting, Doesn't generate as much heat as the Govee, Kasa is compatible with Home Kit and Kasa has a more robust app.

For me, almost everything I have is Hue because that's what I started with and want to keep as much as I can within one ecosystem. I probably would have gone with Kasa if I had to start over as their stuff goes on sale more often than the Hue stuff. They weren't around when I started with my Hue gear.

The Govee is nearly 3 times the length of the Kasa but has almost the same power consumption, so I don't buy that it would run hotter - it's possible but unlikely. And who cares about color accuracy - these aren't televisions. Also note that the aggregate buyer review scores are very similar.

I really like Kasa stuff as it is usually good value, but this seems to be an exception. Yes it's cheaper than normal, but it still seems expensive.
