right, just USB-C. For reference, tb3 speed will top at around 2800MB/s. This is around half that at 1050MB/s. TB3 externals will also cost you a fortune...i think a 1TB TB3 SSD is around $300-400?

It's faster than a regular SSD, not as fast as an internal NVMe, but should be fast enough so that you can run applications or games off of it when it's plugged in. I personally have used it to add video rendering space to my work macs and have edited videos off of these because of its relatively high speed compared to traditional external HD drives.

You can DYI one for cheaper. A thunderbolt-nvme enclosure (real thunderbolt, not "thunderbolt compatible" which is just marketing for usb-C) is about $75 and you can stick in any nvme drive you like. I'm using the Wavlink WL-UTE02 and a 1TB WD Black SN750, total outlay was about $150 and I can max out the SSD at 1750-2000 MB/s. A faster SSD would get better performance but this is fine for my uses.

that's true. i also have a cheapo regular SSD enclosure for my secondary game drive.

i would also point out that nvme generates some heat unlike the regular slower SSDs, so choosing wavlink, a trusted brand, is a good move to DIY. But if anyone isn't familiar with it, they might still prefer to shell out and rely on samsung's manufacturer warranty.

Is the Wavlink TB3 only or is it USB 3.x Gen2 compatible? And 1TB SN750 for $75 was an awesome deal!

An external SSD sped up load times on my XBox One considerably- it's a must buy IMO. This is about the same price as a SSD + external enclosure.

This is only logical if you have slow internet. I got half a gig down so this would only half the speed vs downloading. If it's a game you play often you likely won't be moving it back and forth often. $100 to maybe save me 10 or 15 minutes very very occasionally is IMO a waste of money.

Doesn't XBox use aproprietary format, can you use it for PS5 and XBox at the same time?
