You can DYI one for cheaper. A thunderbolt-nvme enclosure (real thunderbolt, not "thunderbolt compatible" which is just marketing for usb-C) is about $75 and you can stick in any nvme drive you like. I'm using the Wavlink WL-UTE02 and a 1TB WD Black SN750, total outlay was about $150 and I can max out the SSD at 1750-2000 MB/s. A faster SSD would get better performance but this is fine for my uses.
Nice, indeed, I got that wavline one when it's on sale on Prime day, but the package was lost in transport. So I have to shop around....

OP probably should put Costco in title. Not a member but I have two laptops that could use these. My HP Omen would scream with these.

The model number for this Costco one is: SDSSDE61-1T00-AC.
Everywhere else, such as Amazon, Best Buy, it's: SDSSDE61-1T00-G25

Is this just Costco's way of making it their own like they do with other products?

What a great price! - does anyone think within the next 6 months this would drop more in pricing? Just curious. What someone else's thoughts are.

now with that being said for everyone who's asking about the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5

This will not be as fast nor as "up to date" as your current next gen consoles internal drive - those are proprietary and they limit what external drive you use and what it is capable of running.
It may go down further in the next six months but I think this is a good price to secure one now. Black Friday or Christmas sales might be good but I find those holiday sales aren't as great as they used to be.

As for speed, some tests show an external like this one runs PS4 games faster than the internal SSD on the PS5. YMMV of course. Personally, for PS4 games played on the PS5, this should do me nicely and I'll probably grab one.

Tonight I'll be a sneaky boi and try to see if Best Buy can price match the drive so I can ship the $10 game for 8/15.

Anyone know if you can dissemble one of these and use the SN550 NVMe drive inside of a PC?

Doesn't XBox use aproprietary format, can you use it for PS5 and XBox at the same time?
Not at the same time. You'll need two of these, one for each machine, since they will format the drives before use.

most reviews say that they are on par, but this sandisk has an edge because it's rugged and water-resistance (may be proof? not sure) This is also the faster v2.0 so the speed boost is welcome when trying to compare to t7. Form factor wise, it's smaller than it seems, but not as small as t7. t7 is also...usually...costs about $30-50 more.

This comparison only applies to this Sandisk and the t7. Other Sandisk products are not really there yet. We will see if they will improve after WD took over.

ps. i previously bought a t5 and last week when i got this sandisk, i realized this sandisk has a much shorter usb-c cable than the t5. It's no big deal as I can replace/interchange the cables easily.
Having both t7 and the sandisk , I have been having speed issues with the t7. With video editing, I read and write a lot of data and the t7 gives me mixed results. I'll run some speed tests and they're all over the place. For that reason, I've been more pleased with the sandisk. I prefer the enclosure of the sandisk as well. I own 2x2tb t7 and 1 2tb sandisk for reference.

How's the heat on the SD since it's mostly rubberized material? Worried about insufficient cooling.
