We have a 6 pod system from Aerogarden since the past 2 years. First year we grew all 6 pods of herbs. About 4 grew and 2 survived after the other two overcrowded everything else. This year we are growing just two. The height on these units is not so great either and the plants struggle after reaching the top. Its a great way to enjoy fresh herbs but pretty sure growing tomatoes would be tough.

Yeah, with some of the herbs you really need to keep them in check or they crowd out the others. I suggest just regular pruning of herbs like Basil, rather than only using 2/6 spots.
You can also try planting your own seeds with a little work and supplies, as not all of the kit seeds do as well and you can better match growing varieties. They have an Aerogarden 'Grow Anything' kit that includes everything from the seed kits except the seeds for around $15 that's good for a single 'planting' (7 pods) or slightly better for larger bunches. You can also reuse the plastic seed pods and get just replacement sponges plus liquid fertilizer made for hydroponics. You can get non-Aerogarden brand versions of the supplies for around $10 for 50 sponges and maybe $15 for liquid fertilizer good for several plantings.

I've been growing basil in my aerogarden for years now. You can only prune so much before the basil is out of control. I just throw out the plants and start over every 9 months or so. I only use 2 of the 6 holes. Any more and it's crowded really fast.

Just take out the basil. I got the aerogarden sprout from the last $40 deal and the basil is already a monster standing at 4ft. Seriously, just take it out and put it into a pot.

Right now im growing some daisy from seed with seed starting kit. I bought a car sunscreen from Dollar Tree to wrap around the aerogarden to serve as a reflector. This widens the plants so be sure to keep an eye on them.

I have an areogarden and my wife and I are fighting over it. She claims you are supposed replant the plants after they get big. I tell her that they stay there for the life of the plant. Please let me know who is right?

Lol. I've noticed that things like lettuce don't transfer very well. However, I've had great success with tomato plants, basils, and other herbs.

This is good. If you get a bucket pump and lights 40 bucks isn't too bad and this already setup and designed for you

Your wife is right. Plants need room to grow. The Aerogarden is good for taking a seedling into a full fledge plant but then it's really time to let them grow outdoors. I usually repot them after they are crowding other plants OR hitting the max height of the unit. Get grow bags and soil and water them every single day. The Aerogarden instructions even tell you to keep watering them with the plant food provided but I don't. Just good soil and hose water has let all my plants take off.

Watch any youtube video on the subject and you'll see your wife is right. They make way bigger versions of the aerogarden which can hold the plants a lot longer but they are pretty gimmicky since they are about 10x the cost of the standard units and the root systems will become unmanageable if you wait that long. You want to replant them while they're still easy enough to cut free from the plastic rings and get into soil.

Are these things worth it? Or do they end up being just a big hassle? Subjective question i know.

Good news bad news. It's still 50% off, but they upped the regular price. So now it's $50 instead of $39.99.

- Correction It's been updated again and the price is back to $79.99-$50%= $39.99.

I used this link:

you need to select prime (seller). The link doesn't show 50% coupon.
