Is the 2.4 and 5 bands separate? Ever since I changed my router to a nighthawk, my garage opener doesn't connect to the wifi anymore.

I have my TP-Link Deco AX5700 wirelessly backhauling between the two units. One is in the kitchen first floor, the satellite unit is upstairs in office. But I use ethernet cat5e cable from the satellite unit directly into my computers. The speed went from about 200-250mbps wireless connected to my computer, to 350mbps wired to my computer from the satellite unit. I have 400mbps internet service from Spectrum. With my previous router in the kitchen and an extender device upstair, I had only speeds of 80 -120mbps. So I about tripled the speed to my office computers. Plus in the future they have plenty of capacity to be faster if I upgrade my internet speed because one of the ports on the Deco AX5700 is 1 G and the other is 2.5 G.

No, create a guest network and put the garage opener on the guest network since you can make that only 2.4ghz. A lot of older devices and older IOT devices have problems with combined bands or smart connect in general, use the guest network for them.

Your welcome, also in most cases if you upgrade the wireless card in your computer you would have also gotten close to similar speeds to the hardwire.

Yes, you are right again. My family member has an old desktop that still uses Windows 7. The max internet speed is just under 100mbps (out of 400mbps max internet service) no matter what internet connection I try. But that speed is more than adequate for the purposes of that computer so no need to hog internet speed that is not as needed with other computers in the household.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to best still use my original router. If you have any suggestions I would welcome it.

Super disappointed by this system. Ditched eero to try this but had to go back. Some issues that did not worked for me:

- In my mesh system; I had to turn off the main router and when it came back on it picked a 172.x.x.x IP address range. It took me 10 days to figure out how to fixt this.
- Random dropped WiFI. This is super serious. During my Zoom/Chime/Teams calls internet wil go down. AppleTV will drop and so as Shield TV.
- Poor Coverage in Mesh.

Can use it as a lower end access point for an area of the house not important but might need occasional coverage. If you have some hardwired items you can make the router if it supports the function into a media bridge and connect the hardwire items to the router and then to the main network wirelessly. Essentially it would make the router act as a wireless adapter for multiple devices that are plugged in which normally could not use wireless.

Unfortunate too many variables to easily troubleshoot, but try turning off fast roaming and make sure beam forming is enabled under advanced features. If your saying you get poor coverage in Mesh then you must have pretty big interference in your home, either construction material or other types of interference as I seen these units easily cover a 2 story 2500sq ft home. relocating the Decos into different locations might help.

Try to see if there are any patterns to disconnect, things like poorly constructed bluet tooth sound bars when they activate can generate huge amounts of interference and drop signals, same thing with microwaves and other devices like that.

A lot of people have been having good luck with the lower end version of the AX3600/X68 triband set its a 3 pack for a little cheaper right now at costco can always give that a shot.

AX4200 as a stand alone is pretty decent, as a mesh it is one of the slower performers around equal to that of the latest Eero Pro. The XT8 should be a better performer than this so if you didn't like that you wont like the AX4200. A few pros of the AX4200 was its ability to use it as a NAS it averaged good numbers with drives over 100 MB/s. Devices usually had no problems changing between hardware from all the reviews I had which is a plus, and overall it was reliable.

The AX5700 is the fastest mesh out currently next to the X90 the slightly better version of it. I only use it as a single router solution currently cause my new place is not big enough for both units but I have had no issues. Both the AX4200 and the AX5700 are set it and forget with little to no customization if you need that and advanced features the XT8 is the one to stick with.

Thanks for the reply. In theory XT8 would be a great mesh solution, however asus cannot get firmware right. Only one stable version right now, that was released earlier this year. All subsequent versions break things to the point where you want to toss it in the trash haha. Will give this deco a try.
