Best Buy just lowered the price of this SSD by another $50. The SN850 and the Samsung 980 Pro seem to be in a price war right now, as they are both among the top choices for the PS5 Expandable Memory. The SN850 is the drive that Playstation 5 architect Mark Cerny has tweeted that he is personally putting in his own PS5.

A 3rd-party heat sink is still recommended before putting it in your PS5. Here's a good guide to suggested add-on heat sinks that will work. https://nascompares.com/2021/07/3...stay-cool/

As much as I want one, I can't bring myself to spend so much on an SSD. For another $30 I could get another PS5. I'll keep playing the waiting game.

This is the fastest drive for the PS5, shown by many tests. The Samsung 980 Pro is right behind it.

I bought a 1TB Samsung a couple weeks ago just to be ready. Was afraid the inventory would collapse once Sony releases the firmware supporting them.

Yah man I feel you! My argument is the same. I'll wait till I can get a 1tb for $100 or less ... Or a 2 tb for $175.

I would go with extra bucks for the SN850 with integrated heat sink.

I could almost foresee the liability issues and arguments using the third-party heat sink caused by overheating and thermal throttle while Sony PS5 and SSD manufactures (WD, Samsung, Seagate etc.) refuse to honor their warranty.

You sound paranoid. And that linked one is not a $60 heatsink.

Because I believe someone like me would hate to deal with these knock-off hassles and mess up with their hard-to-get device.

Good. We the consumers should be demanding 6 Terabytes for this price.

Keep in mind that IF there is a same spec model under the brand Sandisk, it is the same exact drive, but cheaper.

This is a great deal if you are able to couple it with the 15% recycling incentive: https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/659743

It comes out to just under $315. I was able to trade in an old SD card.
