Sorry to hear they wouldn't sell it to you. I was lucky and got one for .01. The manager made some calls (probably to the district manager or corporate) and he told me that they have to sell it for whatever it rings up as.
Nice! Happy you scored. Hopefully some good slickdeal karma headed my way.

Missed 7 in 2 different stores where they were available minutes before I got there. Fortunately I found 2 in another store.

For reference only...

BTW finding anything in a HD store recently is a real challenge around here recently. The shelves are not being restocked and stuff is be relocated with no indication of where it ends up. Is it just me or is this a thing?

You will not find them in aisle it's in big locked box in front or side of checkout you have to ask checkout person to get one of these the store manager lowered it to $100 and I bought it still better than $200 or $150
Same happened to me ringed at $150 but the cashier lowered it to $100.

Yeah, those .01 items are coded to be removed. And they are Not supposed to sell to you. But your miles may vary. The goal is to try to self check out and fly under the radar. Harder on items like this which is usually locked up.

Previously HD would mark clearance items to a penny. Employees should have pulled the inventory to be destroyed or returned. They have since (years ago) changed that policy because items would not get removed. I purchased a few things over the years for a penny. So not sure how it happened now but not surprised by it.

Had a pretty annoying experience at Home Depot in Beaverton, OR. They showed three in stock. Drove over there and spent 30 minutes with one of their associates to try to find them. Eventually found them and went to checkout.

They rung up as one cent (yes one cent) and I told them that didn't seem right. They brought another person over and told me that they can't sell something when it rings up for one cent. I told them they are on clearance for $50.03 and the lady said she could only sell them to me for $199.

Eventually manager came over and after explaining the situation he offered to sell me only ONE for $100 but not all three and not for the $50.03. Waste of a few hours of time. Warning in case any one is thinking of picking them up from Beaverton Home Depot.
I was literally about to head over to the Beaverton HD. Thank you for posting your experience, although such a tough one to hear. That sucks.

I always thought that was a dumb method. Self Checkout or putting a penn item in a larger purchase is a good way for that inventory to slip through. If they can't block it at the register I would think having the item ring up at some ridiculously high cost would get more attention.

I went to this same Home Depot at 4:30 today and they said they had none in stock and were very unhelpful.

two stores have 2-3 on hand near me on brickseek but "not available" within 100 miles on HD website. Closed now - any idea if it's worth getting up early and heading over?
