I was walking around a local Walmart and saw these on an end cap. They had no price tag, so I scanned it with the Walmart app and they came out to $249.99. I picked up 2 and they still had 6 more on the shelf.

With plexpass hardware transcoding, this uses Intel QuickSync and can handle 22+ 1080 transcodes without issue.

I use an old Celeron with Quicksync. I've personally hit 22 1080p at once. I don't transcode 4k so couldn't give you an estimate there.

It's amazing how many people don't realize this and frequently recommend adding GPUs for Plex. That's not needed and purely a waste of money. Even the Plex subreddit has hoards of individuals frequently recommending a GPU for Plex. Feel free... but it's a waste of money.

edit: Use Linux in this use case to avoid any headaches. I recommend Ubuntu

As long as your clients are set to request a direct stream, and your bandwidth can handle the upstream, it can easily do as many as you need. Now transcoding is a completely different story which appears to have already been addressed.

Good not great. Better than many as the stand is very good. My daughter bought one and I bought another for her. She uses them daily at work from home.

She paid $125 each new.

as long as you are not planning to upgrade this much. depending on what lenovo you got, your lenovo might be better in term of ability for gpu upgrade space, etc..

No idea why there are people that would insist on getting this to put a 1070 card inside.....lol... the gpu is too big and use too much power for this thing. If you can even find a psu to upgrade this, you would already spend at least $80 more so it's no longer that cheap. and plus you still have the problem with small case , limited space, etc.

People, get over trying to buy this as a bargain pc to do anything else for more than video watching and some light office productivity and some old games!!

It's not designed for much more than upgrading the ram to 32GB and adding in a m2 SATA ssd. trying anything more and you will just spending way too much additional money and effort on something that still have a lot of limitations!

Its just fine for that purpose. It is what its likely designed for!

I picked up two yesterday. No issues. Store had about 14 of them. Works great as entry level for my kids. They can play basic computer games like Roblox and Minecraft on it.
That means they were hidden by employees

Lots of these lingering. Not a smoking hot deal, but good for new and actually available at many stores.

As usual nothing around me. Was looking for new or refurbished 10th gen desktop (should be enough for next at least 4-5 years) purely for download torrents/watching movies or sport from web.

The Guideline
Very roughly speaking, for a single full-transcode of a video, the following PassMark score requirements are a good guideline for the following average source file:
4K HDR (50Mbps, 10-bit HEVC) file: 17000 PassMark score (being transcoded to 10Mbps 1080p)
4K SDR (40Mbps, 8-bit HEVC) file: 12000 PassMark score (being transcoded to 10Mbps 1080p)
1080p (10Mbps, H.264) file: 2000 PassMark score
720p (4Mbps, H.264) file: 1500 PassMark score
