Exactly. This was reviewed as a very good value before the slimy changes were made to it by PNY. It's hard to know how much performance and endurance was lost or will be lost in the future if PNY continues to put cheaper components into it.</p>
I will say, to their credit, PNY wasn't "caught" swapping components - what happened was they updated the spec sheet they were publishing to reflect the characteristics of the new component (specifically, new NAND was sourced that had much lower endurance).
This is different than, e.g., Samsung secretly swapping components and sequential writes dropping 50%.

They have also issued a clarification that people who bought prior to the change will get the full warranty up to the original TBW.
They should still have changed it to V2 if not a different model number.
Adata is at the other end of sliminess where the component performance was considerably degraded and they tried to get away without even updating the spec.
Samsung case is a bit more nuanced. They changed the caching to improve burst write speeds which it did but the new design had a side effect of reducing performance for sustained writes after about 115GB in that same continuous writing. A little different from swapping out for cheaper or worse components.
They did change the Serial Number after the change and the package design but model number remained the same. I guess there is a significant business cost in creating new model numbers and SKUs for even legitimate reasons.
Unfortunately, people spread FUD without understanding details which lets the real slime balls off the hook under "they all do it".
