Not a ps5 owner, but can the ps5 take advantage of the SN850's extra speed though?

Sony said 5500 sequential read minimum. While the console itself might say it's ok for now, I wouldn't suggest anyone buy this for their ps5,.

I need a cheapish 500/1TB for a MacBook Air 2017 but I have no idea if this would work. It needs an adapter for the proprietary mobo connector, but drivers are also an issue. (Thanks, Apple - on both counts)

With how many games will even ever be able to utilize a speed around there, it'd be find to house almost every game on your NVMe SSD and then move the ones that somehow have need for that speed to the internal drive.

AFAIK you will need a specific type of drive to insert it into the MBAir 2017, or use an adapter.

I would not recommend a 1TB drive for the PS5. Get a minimum of 2TB.

The internal drive is so small that I initially downloaded 8 games before it filled up.

I've since removed some of the larger games and also put some games on external drives. But the external drive is for PS4 games so...

People really need a solution for the horrific decisions that Sony made here.

P.S. The internal expansion is only available to people accepted for Sony Beta testing that are using Beta versions of the OS. The device has been out for almost a year, and yet it still isn't fully functional.

True, but the beta does seem to be working without issue for me. The PS5 saw a drive that was rated at 7500 as only being able to do 3900 so I think any NVMe gen4 will be fine. I can almost guarantee all 8 of those games will work fine on the expansion drive. Any game in the far future that will utilize faster speeds can be on main drive. I bet we see very few games fully use the speed.

I don't have beta options so I wouldn't know. And that's a problem that most people probably have.

I've submitted a request for the beta track already.

The fact that the Beta is getting good praise when it comes to that is promising for an extremely important feature that should have existed on day 1.
