I purchased some Marmot gear listed here on SD and Marmot sent me a damaged item. I contacted Marmot multiple times with pictures of the item, and they ignored my messages. I do not recommend buying anything from Marmot. That is not how a company should treat their customers. First they send you a damaged item, then they ignore you.

The damaged item I received is pictured below. It is brand new, never worn, and still has the original tags on it. There is a large hole on the cap that looks like it may have been from one of those anti-theft security devices used in stores that may have been improperly removed, or from someone who was careless and damaged the item.

There are many other great companies to buy similar gear from, such as Mountain Hardwear, Patagonia, and The North Face, who have much better customer support.

I will be reposting this story every time a Marmot offer comes up on SD as a public service announcement, so shoppers here are aware of what could happen to them.

I would expect large companies such as Marmot to monitor social media and sites such as SD. Let's see if they do, and step up to do the right thing in my case.

Buyer beware!

The reviews on Trustpilot are awful, from a customer service standpoint

I agree about their customer service. Not very customer friendly. I ordered a jacket a year and a half ago and received an incorrect size. When I called to explain the situation to the customer service representative, she acted like this was my fault instead of owning up to their mistake.

Good prices and free shipping and returns are worthless, if Marmot sends you damaged items and then ignores your messages when you're trying to return or exchange your items.

I'm not the only person posting about the poor customer service from Marmot. As Nellie32DD pointed out before my post, Marmot has terrible customer service ratings on Trustpilot:

https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.marmot.com

In comparison, I've had nothing but stellar customer service from Mountain Hardwear, Patagonia, and The North Face, AND, they have never sent me any damaged items.

Less than 24 hours after I posted about my negative shopping experience with Marmot here on SD, I received a message from someone who supposedly works for them.

The person stated that they wanted to "rectify" my problem. I sent my order # to the person who contacted me, but I have not received any additional messages from them.

I will follow up with updates in this and all future Marmot SD threads if Marmot responds and/or sends me a new, undamaged, identical replacement item, as I requested.

I'm confused- with their free return policy couldn't you have just initiated a return and get your money back?
