Love my AfterShokz. I have the OpenMove which are great, but of course I prefer the Aeropex as I have a massive noggin. For those with average or below average sized heads, either would be fine, and they're even available in a Mini size, with a shorter band.

The audio quality is not HIFI, which couldn't be expected from something that has to go through your skin and bones to get to your eardrum, but if you get a comfortable pair, you can wear them all day for occasional music, calls, or audiobooks and forget you're even wearing them. Unless you have very short hair, or colorful AfterShokz, most people likely won't even notice you're wearing them. I even wear them with glasses (closest to my skull) and a mask (closest to my ear) and rarely have any discomfort after getting used to them.

My favorite thing about these, other than the fact that I can hear what's going on around me even while I'm listening to music, is the fact that the inside of my ears don't get that sweaty waxy feeling that comes from wearing earbuds all the time.

My only complaint is that they aren't comfortable to wear lying down, as the band around the back is stiff and pushes the transducers (essentially the speaker part) forward away from your ears when lying on your back and the transducers themselves press into your head/ear if you lie on your side.

Bottom Line: If you haven't tried bone conduction headphones, and you're interested in any one of the benefits, you owe it to yourself to give them a shot.

The sound from these are merely 'ok'. If you are someone who needs to keep their ears open for surrounding sounds, these are the way to go from a safety standpoint (joggers, bicyclists, etc). However, if you have a large head, these probably won't fit correctly or be comfortable as there is no size adjustment.

I can't wear those earpods without them falling out. I also need something that I can hear the surrounding. I got this (or different version) as a gift. I like the sounds and be able to use it all the times on video conferences. The only complain I have is the vibration on areas the phone touchs your head. It definitely takes sometimes to get use to that. I don't think this is for everyone.

Just a comment. The "Bone Conduction" in the heading is actually a distracting note. In fact, bone conduction is never greater than air conduction in healthy humans. Otherwise, there is a conductive hearing impairment. Anyone who is familiar with physiology knows this. This is also routinely checked in ENT practice, e.g. Rinne test.

These headphones are just small speakers that hang over your ears. Nothing else. If you move them further from the ear, you hear less. This would never happen if they featured only bone conduction. Thus, regular air conduction applies. They are not bad (I do own a previous edition), but the advertisement is distructing.
Either I'm not understanding you, or you are talking out your rear. These literally come with ear plugs to block your ears from all outside sounds coming from the air, and that makes the sounds from the headphones much clearer. I can't speak from how much is conducted via bones vs other tissue, but it's definitely NOT going though the air through your ear canal.

These are pretty quiet. Yes in a quiet room, people near you may hear them more than ear buds, but definitely not in a gym. Theses aren't those super annoying speakers, but they transmit th sound directly into you, pressed to the bone in front of your ears.

I didn't state that bone conduction wouldn't apply. Moreover, mine didn't come w/ earplugs and it actually doesn't make any sense to use plugs w/ originally plugless earphones that are supposed to allow you to hear the environment while listening to the music at the same time (e.g. in the office). If you use earplugs, why just don't buy regular high-quality ear plug headphones? What is the reason to use such a complicated multi-item device instead? That's ridiculous.

With the purchase of any of our headphones, you will receive a pair of foam earplugs along with them. Our Customer Happiness Team gets a lot of questions regarding the earplugs, and we're here to answer them!

AfterShokz products provide a safe way to tune in without tuning out your surroundings. So, why earplugs you ask? There are times when you're in a safe environment, and you want to block out ambient noises. Mom's vacuuming during your Netflix binge? Son learning the drums? We get it.

We also recommend earplug usage if you work in an industry where you want to preserve your hearing and still listen to music, such as landscaping and construction. You're able to maintain your concentration while listening to music and podcasts.

I'm not understanding your point. The quote you posted, does not contradict w/ both my messages. Yes, they might have added the plugs saying "there're times..". Yes, there are. Then stick the plugs into the ears and turn the volume up (as you would do w/ any regular speakers) so that your neighbours hear you as well. B/c by doing this you will block most of the air conduction (as you stated) and you would need to overcome the block since the bone conduction would not be sufficient. Voila!

But it has nothing to do with my original comment on "Bone conduction". You wanna take headphones, plugs, mic, remote, etc with you? Ok, go for it. This neither changes how your hearing works nor it changes the design of these headphones.

Still don't believe? Grab yours, stick them to your skull somewhere at the tip of your head and turn them on. You will see how much you will get via "bone conduction". Don't forget the plugs Smilie

You must never have owned a pair. I've had 3 pairs of the Titaniums and two of the Open Move (I'm forgetful at charging and don't like to wait.) The ambient noise is louder than bone conduction headsets, especially in most gym settings where they're playing music. That's not saying that they don't work, but they don't work in the way you are thinking. In the office I use these with the volume at the lowest setting or the second to lowest. In the field with ear plugs in (industrial) I don't crank them up all the way or I have trouble hearing people trying to talk to me.

I just did the experiment. I put the ear plugs in deep and tight and tested with the Airs and Openmoves. With both, when they are in contact with me, I hear clearly on both, but better with the Airs. When I pull just above my skin, right next to my ears on max volume, I hear nothing with the Airs and a slight muffled sound with the Openmoves.

And now I tried it on my forehead, still with the plugs in, and hear with the Airs and Openmoves, but again, much better and clearer with the Airs. They also work ok pressed to my chin, but amazingly well against my teeth!

So that settles it for me, the Airs are effectively bone conducting. The Openmoves are a hybrid, but relying a bit on air conduction.

Did you actually ever do that experiment yourself?

Edit: The big design difference between the two is that the Airs have a dedicated bone conduction pad which sticks out to push into your skin a but, while the Openmoves lack that pad and the plastic body rests flat on your skin.

How are these compared with the Open Move that were on sale for about the same price at Amazon a few days ago?
