Home Depot has the Milwaukee 56 piece 3/8 drive socket set and 50 piece 1/4 drive socket set for $199.00 - regular price $289 for the combination; the sets separately are: $179.00 for the 56 piece 3/8 in drive socket set and 119.00 for the 50 piece 1/4 in drive set.

Each set includes 90 tooth ratchets, a quality carrying case (better than the gearwrench cases) and includes the removable molded trays for your toolbox drawer for organization.

This is the same price the Packout 106 piece version was for black Friday last year and includes the same coverage of sockets. Note, if you are like me and not into the packout system, you may prefer the two separate cases vs the weight of hauling all 106 pieces around.

The previous "Special Buy" in early February was $229 and this is the lowest price for these two sets together since February 2020 when they were $189. With the way tool prices have been going up, this is a really good deal.

Sikastina's overview is spot on in regards to buying this set with two separate cases vs. the 106pc packout.

I have the following info saved since deals and questions on these socket sets come up so often.
Here are the Milwaukee part numbers for their socket sets:

48-22-9486 - 106pc 3/8 and 1/4in socket set in a single packout container.
This was the $200 2020 holiday season special that was continuously out of stock. Occasionally seen as a "Special Buy Of the Day" sale item for $230.

You can create the 106pc packout socket set with the following part numbers:
48-22-9008 3/8in 56pc SAE and Metric socket set (Part of this slick deal bundle)
48-22-9004 1/4in 50pc SAE and Metric socket set (Part of this slick deal bundle)
48-22-9486T 106pc packout Socket trays
48-22-8431 Low profile packout organizer

The 3/8 and 1/4 socket sets can be broken down even further:
48-22-9008 3/8in 56pc SAE and Metric set can be created with the following PNs
48-22-9508 3/8in 32pc Metric Socket Set
48-22-9408 3/8in 28pc SAE Socket Set

48-22-9004 1/4in 50pc SAE and Metric set can be created with the following PNs
48-22-9504 1/4in 28pc Metric Socket Set
48-22-9404 1/4in 26pc SAE Socket Set

Great tools, but not sd territory. May want to wait for Black Friday or another special buy. I was able to grab 3/8 set plus set of screwdrivers for $99 and have seen 1/4 as low as $59

It is true, we may see some lower prices come Christmas season, if you can find them in stock, and if you don't think inflation hasn't caught up to quality hand tools. I've been observing that the everyday retail price on lots of hand tools has come down 5-10%, but the discount sales haven't been nearly as deep as they were in previous years. My understanding from reading the tool blogs is that costs of raw materials, manufacturing, and shipping have all increased over the last 18 months.

For other's context though, the most recent sale price on that 3/8 in set with screwdriver was Jan 30-Feb4th 2021 for $119. In 2020 it went on sale twice for $99. I haven't seen any deals below $79 on the full 1/4 in set this year (and I think that was an ebay deal).

I've been in the market for the Milwaukee socket set since 2019 and have held out from okay deals waiting for the price to drop... I've gone as far as trying to buy them locally via Offer Up in order to match some of the pricing I saw on out of stock deals I couldn't get back in 2019/2020. This is the first time I've found them in stock. If you have a NEED for the sets that can't wait until "maybe" Christmas this is a great deal.

I use this set professionally in a high demand hangar, and they are better IMO than my colleague's snap on basic sockets and drivers. SO still has the edge in specialty stuff, but the fit and finish on these are great, the tray and sockets wipe down easily with alcohol or mineral spirits, and the engraving is very easy to read. Plus they don't roll away.

They also sell this exact 106 set but in a PACKOUT case with better inserts, currently $299 but has gone on sale twice for the same $199 price. If you can wait, I'd hold out hope for that incredible deal again (Black Friday?):

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwa.../313128236

And, yes, you can make the PACKOUT version but not for $199. You'd have to be paying $140 for this to break-even with the cost of inserts (48-22-9486T, $20) and case (48-22-8431, $40). Although this deal + inserts + case is $40 cheaper than buying the PACKOUT version retail price ($260 Vs. $299).

These Milwaukee 90t ratchets are. Smooth af. The squared off sides preventing them from rolling are a smarter idea than you think

Milwaukee's website implies that the low-profile compact organizer (48-22-8436) works with the tray set you listed but wonder if it's a typo. Any idea if that would be possible? The compact would work better for the 15" tote I have.

You can get just the 3/8 Metric set in a compact low profile pack-out as well the 3/8 SAE in a compact low profile pack-out.

So separate compact low profile pack-outs for only the 3/8 sockets set. Don't believe they offer that setup for the 1/4 sets.

Check out part numbers

48-22-9481
48-22-9482

I think they went for around $100ea during 2020 holiday season.

Showing as 189 for me now.

If I didn't get the 192 pc dewalt set earlier this year I'd get this. The size of that case is under estimated. These two smaller sets/cases are great. And these come with the trays for a drawer.
