It can be but you're better off going with a kindle if you're going to use it as an e-reader. The kindle has an eink display that is easy on the eyes and the battery will last for weeks. An eink display is similar to an etch-a-sketch, an electronic charge pulls black particles to make the image, so the display uses very little power and what you see is physical image - it is way better for extended reading.

I strongly recommend just getting a Fire HD 8. Even for simple browsing it will feel a lot better than the 7.

I mean, unless you don't like who will be using the device, then have at it.

Depends on your expectations, I bought both the 8 and the 10 but the 8 pisses me off significantly. I do like the smaller form factor but the 10 is better in every way. Better screen, better processor. I ended up returning the 8 especially because one of the corners was dented, there was damage to the outer box and 0 padding between the box and the device. It was a steal too, I bought it for $45 on prime day so I had very little expectations. Mainly was going to use it as a disposable device, let the girls play with it or throw it around but the lack of joy it was bringing me plus the damage in shipping pushed me into returning it. Plus I also got the 10 for $35 more which was actually bringing me joy and not damaged in shipping

After reading that Google Play apps arent compatible, I will not purchase this. Going to look for something cheaper

I honestly don't think it's possible to find anything cheaper that would actually be usable. I actually ended up giving my Fire 10 to my mother in law and bought a Galaxy Tab S7, figured if I'm going to be using it daily I shouldn't compromise on quality. Not trying to be mean, just realistic. Best of luck
