You would be incorrect in your understanding. Wifi 6E is actually the shortest range out there so it does not fix anything when it comes to coverage or range, it just increases throughput at short distances and uses unused frequencies to achieve it. wifi 6E benefits from most tests show its only useful in same room situations outside of that AX takes over.

As for AX/Wifi 6 only shining in short range that's also incorrect, as you can be a solid 50ft away and still pulling over 800Mbps on a wifi 6 2x2 client which cant be said for wifi 5.

Then you add the whole OFDMA/MIMO they are still ironing out, and the ultra low latency power consumption and you get a nice little package.

The TP-Link AX series overheat if I'm not mistaking.

Edit: Did some quick research and it seems the AX3000 is the one with the issues.

In for one.

The previous version of this also suffered overheating issues when it was put in limited airflow locations.

This is the new revised version and it works very well since they opened up the top of the unit to allow more airflow.

Got this for about this much on Prime day. LOVE it. Didn't have to mess with the firmware (I had ddwrt installed on my old r6700 because it fixed some performance issues but that only lasted so long).

Highly recommended if it has the specs you need. Doesn't cut out, doesn't need to be restarted, solid router.

I've found TP link routers can be decent but the automatic standard configuration is horrible. Turn off smart access. Configure each channel individually and there's the 20,40,80mhz channel and change it to 20mhz and it makes a big difference

I have DD-WRT on my r6700 and it has been flawless for 5 plus years now. but I also get not wanting to deal with putting a third party firmware on it.
There are a number 1 and 2 stars talking about need to reboot frequently but not many.

Thats great if you want more stable connections in areas where there is a lot of interference but your losing a lot of throughput. So for those with speeds of over 400Mbps I would not recommend it unless your really more interested in stability over performance.

I just purchased the refurb nighthawk at Walmart for $35. Is this worth double?

What you described sums up 98% of the people who buy routers. They live in busy condensed neighborhoods with a dozen other routers. And most ISPs are only pushing out 100-200mbps. If your running fiber and 1000mbps your not using a router like this

I also got the refurb, This is tempting, but I've read wireless ax/wifi 6 only shines in very short ranges in the 5 Ghz band. Wifi 6e address this shortcoming.
This price is tempting, but I'm sticking to the Walmart refurb as a stopgap until wifi 6e is more affordable. If you're a power user, I also like the Walmart nighthawk because it allows dd wrt third party firmware.

If you were replying to me, I would not say 98% of all people. I would say probably more 60% as in the suburbs of most major cities its not as bad as in the cities where your living in apartments.

Yes if your using fiber this would definitely not be for you, this is more for people with speeds between 100-500Mbps.

Still a great router, for most basic to medium users.

Anyone using this in a two-story house successfully? 3100 sq ft - not a huge house.
