it should be a lot less than a normal one because it has the pump.

all the parts look generic, which is a huge plus, they must be selling this at pretty close to cost, you couldn't part this together for close to $140.

Identical unit with tank and faucet for cheaper on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/234130203097?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&campid=5338722076&tool... [ebay.com]

Also, not sure about taking the dive in this water. QC issues galore on practically every other Ukoke RO system out there. Many complaints of foul tasting water as well. What the heck are the filters made from? Dunno man, but I'd steer clear for two reasons. 1. I don't want a flooded kitchen 2. I don't want toxic unknowns going into my 'clean' drinking water. For something like this I'd rather pay more and get a reputable brand.

Agreed. Water filters are one of the things I tend to splurge more money on. Not worth saving a couple bucks to potentially get poisoned.

What would be considered some solid brands?

ispring is the most reputable and reliable brand. Have a 5 stage that has worked perfectly for the past 3 years. You can find them in Amazon and eBay

is this a whole house filter or just under 1 sink?

you attach this to a tank that is typically around 3 gallons, and it will take quite a while to fill up once the tank is empty. you would not use this for the main faucet, just the drinking water dispenser.

Don't confuse a permeate pump with a normal pump (normal pump comes with this system)
a permeate pump saves the water see this video:

I just installed one. It's very flimsy and poor quality. Gaskets are very easy to break. It doesn't come with 3/8" adaptor but 1/2" and 3/4" if your existing waterline is 3/8", buy adaptors. I would invest a better one.

I second ispring. Mine has worked flawlessly until I changed the filter. It lost pressure and I just needed to pump the tank back. Maybe I forgot to close the tank all the way.

with all the issue people mentioning regarding leakage possibility or what all chemicals are going into the water, what are your thoughts on those 5 gallon dispenser like primo from walmart or any similar services.
