Good price if the GPU isn't very important to you. 3050 Ti is like 40% faster for reference. 3060 is over 100% faster.
The first gen screen (this one) has some noticeable blur on motion, despite being a high refresh panel. Second gen is better, but second gen with 1440p panel is smooth.

Overall, this is a killer laptop if you don't mind the blur or smaller trackpad vs other premiums.

Opinions on price vs performance?
Just get the 3060 version of this. Much, much better and comes with 1TB SSD! Also, there is chatter that inflation & supply chain shortages will increase later this year. If that happens, best to buy what you need now.

Casual reminder for those considering this: this machine does not have a webcam. If you don't care about that, perfect. If you are using it for work and need to take meetings..well yeah.

Yesterday the HP Pavilion Aero with a 5700U processor and no gpu made front page, other specs roughly similar. That laptop was $807. For another $47, this is a much better deal.

Buyer beware:
This ASUS is not designed to run with the lid closed (thermals exhaust on to display), so if you plan to use it closed to run external monitor(s), it's no good.

good looking plastic mess with cheap graphics card. too bad.
This is magnesium, not plastic. I have the 3060 version of this and it's built amazing, awesome speakers, great battery life. the 5XXX series Ryzen run circles around most of the intel processors you'll find at this price for a sub 3 lb device.

That's actually false, it can run perfectly fine with the lid closed, Asus has a feature to reduce heat in that mode and reduces CPU to 35 watts in closed mode, still runs graphics 100% and the 3060 model suffers very minimal performance change.

O-kay. You may be right, except it's not a performance problem. The manual for this laptop says "Don't", I read it. So ASUS says "no", and people report display damage from heat. So, it's not a performance issue. Not false.

This laptop is literally made almost entirely of Magnesium Alloy, a premium that makes it 10x stronger than Aluminum, while being 30% lighter than aluminum. It's also among the few sub $1000 laptops that has a dedicated GPU in addition to Ryzen's beastly Zen 3 architecture to use Vega 8 GPU when you need to sip power. You know nothing.

Top of the line? No. Cheaply Made? Hell no. ASUS is rocking it lately.
Sorry i did not mean to say it is actually plastic but it feels like plastic. The same reason why lg gram feels cheap. Magnesium coating wears out and magnesium construction flexes.

This is correct you gotta leave the lid open, I just turn the internal display off and leave it off to the side on my g15, it's nbd to me but I guess it depends on your setup

It can, doesn't mean it should, I'd be very concerned about long term damage from this personally.

battery life on these asus ryzens is amazing, I have the g15 with 3070, I can get easily 8 hours of actual use. Obviously that's not gaming but i was amazed that it actually lasts that long, that's brightness high, real time refreshing thinkorswim and E*Trade, usually with Spotify playing or streaming some news. Never seen a gaming laptop hold up like that.

Man .. why can't they just upgrade to a more decent display for an extra $50? I'll gladly pay it. For a gaming laptop, I'm not sure if 60hz is going to cut it.
