Pretty much only older stuff on "sale" that has been discounted at these prices recently anyway. Not much of a deal here sadly.

I have the Venu. And frankly it's a fantastic device. Can't ask for more from a fitness watch that looks good.

Vivoactive 1 here. Still works great. Battery life only 10 days now.
Wow, 10 days. my vivoactive died after 5 years and 3 months, its battery only otherwise it was working great. Got the forerunner 245 this time as touchscreen was tricky during winter runs with vivoactive. lets see how buttons will do.

I also picked mine up from Amazon the last time it was on sale. The navigation isn't as good as a phone, because I don't think it does turn by turn. I also sometimes forget to put my HR monitor on, so the watch wins there (mine is a 645 music), but it's easier to glance than taking your hand off the handlebar to tilt towards you.

I've been satisified with the Barton Watch band straps for about $20. I don't see anything special about the Garmin ones, swapped it out as soon as I got my watch.
Thanks, yes I heard it can be a little inconsistent. Definitely keen to test it out and see if it can improve things for me.

Do any of these work with the InReach feature?

Both of these depend on the watch.

The Fenix 6 Pro and above models have maps and turn by turn routing. The navigation isn't as responsive as a phone, but it is serviceable, potentially more accessible while riding, and the battery life is much better.

There are lots of established manufacturers of standard watch bands that fit standard lugs, and many of them are very well-built with really high-quality materials for the price. Many Garmin models however, have/had proprietary screw in bars (Fenix 3/5, VivoActive 1), or proprietary sized spring bars (Fenix 6) with a proprietary quick release mechanism. If you have a Garmin with proprietary lugs then straps from reputable band vendors like Barton may not fit (definitely not the quick-release) and you have to buy from Garmin or one of the knockoff vendors on Amazon. It's the random chinese vendors on Amazon who I haven't been impressed with.
The person I quoted and I were referring to the navigation on the Edge 130 Plus.

I didn't know the other Garmin watches didn't take standard watch straps. Thanks for the insight.

Got the Vivoactive 4 this prime day as a trade-in for a similar product from Father's Day that did not have some beeps and bells I wanted for which the Vivoactive 4 did (Pulse-Ox monitor, Amazon music, integration with MFP, and on-wrist display, primarily)

Couldn't be happier. This thing is a tank (taken a couple of full on metal hammers (from elliptical fly handles) to the watch face without a scratch) that has helped me, in 2 and a half months, lose 20 pounds and go from couch potato who'd be out of breath running next door to someone who can jog his first 1/4 mile without even feeling it.... something I haven't been able to do in nearly a quarter century.

It was the final piece (/tool) missing to get me motivated to get in shape. This and my Subaru Forester are my top 2 purchases of this decade.

I have a PM2 (sad face) - I currently use a Vivoactive 3 HR and use the "indoor rowing" activity. Gives me SPM and HR, but no idea of length or splits, but I guess better than nothing?
For the price of a watch you could just upgrade the PM2 to PM5, and then you would get all the modern goodness an integration points as I described in the earlier post.

Any recommendation for me: I've started hiking a lot here in Los Angeles, and it would be nice to have a watch for directions/paths etc. Don't really care about the fitness aspect...I know when my heart is racing, thank you!

As for budget, the cheaper the better...don't really want to drop $600

Would an Apple Watch make more sense?

Thanks.

I got my Fenix Sapphire 3HR about 4 - 5 years ago for a black Friday sale for $250 (The 5's were just announced). Still doing great. It'll still last for a 6 hour hike without needing a recharge. The newer models look great, but I'm still waiting for this one to poop out before justifying the cost of a new watch.

Garmin has too many watches. I had no idea what to buy for my situation and decided on the sense for $200 at Macy's after starting a new account.

Same here, coupon appears on product page, then disappears during checkout. Anyone know what the actual coupon is, in order to apply it manually?
