The cigaret lighter socket usually designed up to 180W (180W/12V= 15Amp fuse set up for that line) simply because of the current flow if anything with more power demand was to be plugged in it will blow the fuse.
If they were to design it with more power than wires would have to be thicker gauge and well as contacts rated for as much as well. It should be fine if connected directly to battery but there you also get limitations due to battery capacity, car alternator power and few other issues that can arise. Unless car has big battery (or two) and high power alternator the inverter might suck more power (depends on demand of what's connected to inverter as well) than car can handle and it might not be best situation for car electronics and computers as well. That's why 1.5-2KW ones are risky IMO.
At that point small quiet dual fuel generator with propane might be better option.

Seems like a good deal, but can the EverStart work in a cigarette accessory?

On the photo of the box it says it can provide 120 watts if you use the plug they provide and plug it into the 12V Accessory Outlet (aka cigarette socket)

Damn good price for a 1000w inverter. Seems pretty decent from what I can tell. Looks like the cheapest this one sells for is about $56 with shipping from no-name resellers on eBay. Really wish I didn't miss out on the 1500w, but I'll take this one as an intermediary consolation until I can find a deal on a bigger one. Note that neither of these are pure sine wave.

Thanks. 120 watts kind of stinks for what I was hoping for, but I guess enough for some mac/chromebooks and phones. It sort of makes sense though since those 12v don't support a whole lot.

Also has an incorrect title on the Walmart site - it is, kind of obviously, a DC to AC inverter.
