Premium members only. Select books on sale for as low as $5. Sale ends 9/17. I will say the highest price I've seen so far is $7.

Let me start off by saying, the Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss is my favorite series. Let me caution any one wanting to read these books... It's been a decade since the 2nd book, The Wise Man's Fear, dropped. There is no ETA on the 3rd and final book. Just a heads up if you are wanting a complete story, this is a bad choice. That being said, Patrick's world building and story telling is excellent and I'd highly recommend his work.
I highly recommend Theft of Swords by Michael J Sullivan. I got the three books in this trilogy in a similar sale and was hooked. I've listened to them all multiple times, as well as the books in his other series.
Third book....is probably never coming out

Quote from Deadwing :
Here is an appropriate quote from Neil Gaiman when questioned about George R. R. Martin's tardiness and the entitled fans:

Look, this may not be palatable, Gareth, and I keep trying to come up with a better way to put it, but the simplicity of things, at least from my perspective is this:

George R.R. Martin is not your bitch.

This is a useful thing to know, perhaps a useful thing to point out when you find yourself thinking that possibly George is, indeed, your bitch, and should be out there typing what you want to read right now.
He's not my bitch, but I can be pissed off when they don't deliver.

I had a terrible time trying to finish The Name of the Wind and finally just put it away 3/4 of the way through. It was just too tedious. I did listen to Rothfuss at a comic con panel and his writing process sounds just as tiresome and painful as his writing style.

There are some fantastic history books in this sale as well:

Alexander the Great by Philip Freeman, is considered by many, the best book on the subject.

Waterloo by Bernard Cromwell

The Rise of Rome by Anthony Everitt

Persian Fire by Tom Holland

Also the obligatory plug for Hyperion by Dan Simmons. Honestly, it's probably the best sci-fi book (and series) I've ever read.

I grabbed Paradise Lost & Dante's Inferno as well.

My heart absolutely shatters every time someone mentions these books. They are far and away my favorite books I've ever read. I would seriously give away all the organs I don't need to stay alive to get the next book in my hands. I'm not kidding.

YES! That irks me.

The Iliad as read by Dan Stevens is well worth checking out for anyone who has ever had even a passing interest in reading it. Fitzgerald's translation is MUCH less stiff than some other versions you may have tried to get through in school, and Dan Stevens brings incredible energy, humor, and drama to his interpretation.

Stevens also reads Fitzgerald's translation of the Odyssey — I don't see it in the sale listing, but it's equally fantastic, just FYI.

Had/Have depression and semi-creative hobbies. I WAS a defender for a few years after the initial kerfuffle started but I'm out now. I have no expectation it'll ever be finished. If it does come out before I die, i'll borrow it from the library, I refuse to support him and not buying another goat/cow either. The TV/Movie deal is dead, Book 3 is dead, much like this horse.

Backstory for those new to the drama:
He bragged that "all 3 books are done", "only need some editing" and then when book 3 got delayed and he got called on what he said, he packed up his toys and went home. He promised a trilogy "there will not be a book 4", instead of eating crow and splitting book 3 into a book 4, he quit,

Agreed. I think people forget this is his job. That people bought into the series expecting a conclusion and third book. This is the only job besides painting and sculpting that would tolerate this. He made an implied and overt promise he has made and he has profited off that. He has parlayed the fame fans have given him into other projects and money making ventures as well. Also it's fairly obvious given the now removed post by his editor that he screwed over their small publishing company. It would be better if he just said "I'm not writing another book." It would be better than the teasing and bull.

just to add my 2 cents - Name of the Wind and theft of swords are phenominal reads! Rothfuss may never finish the kingkiller chronicles, but Sullivan not only finished that 6 book series, but wrote a 6 book prequel series taking place thousands of years prior. I could not put sullivans books down and have actually read all his works twice

Nothing in the Sci/Fi list meets your criteria of not being part of a series since this is a sale for mostly book 1s and X.5s. It's hard to recommend the few that aren't part of a series w/o knowing what you prefer.

About 6 years ago, there was a (no joke) chinese knock off Door of Stone ebook floating around. 5 or 600 pages and closes out the existing story lines. Was it good? Nope... I think the author drew a lot of inspiration from anime and wusha books.
There was also a 100'ish page fan-fic that closed out book 3 as well.

Track one of those down and save your organs. Smilie

Thanks. I almost bought it based on your recommendation but checked and found it's immediately available in audiobook form at my library so it was free for me! YMMV.

Lol, I thought I was the last one who goes to the library and gets audiobooks! Going to try it as well. Love Name of the wind. One of my all time favorites. I hope the 3rd book publishes before I die.

Even though it's a part of a 4 book series but you could only read the first one, check out The Lies of Locke Lamora, that might just recently passed The Name of the Wind as one of my favorites.

[delete - duplicate] If you're okay with Sci-fi Fantasy genre, then check out Brandon Sanderson.
